Safety System Analyst information

What is a safety system analyst?

Safety System Analysts are professionals who assess, design, and maintain safety systems within organizations to ensure compliance with safety regulations and minimize risks. They analyze data from incidents, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and technologies. Their work helps organizations create safer work environments, prevent accidents, and meet regulatory requirements. Safety System Analysts often collaborate with engineers, management, and safety personnel to implement effective safety strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a safety system analyst?

To thrive as a Safety System Analyst, you need expertise in risk assessment, safety regulations, data analysis, and a relevant degree such as engineering or occupational health. Familiarity with safety management software, incident reporting systems, and certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you identify hazards and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure the implementation of robust safety protocols, reducing workplace incidents and supporting organizational compliance.

How does a safety system analyst typically collaborate with other departments to ensure workplace safety?

A Safety System Analyst frequently works cross-functionally with departments such as operations, engineering, and human resources to identify potential hazards, review incident reports, and implement safety protocols. This collaboration often involves gathering data from various teams, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as the analyst must translate technical safety information into practical guidelines that other departments can follow. By fostering these relationships, Safety System Analysts help build a culture of safety throughout the organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are excited to have a new role for a Learning Systems Analyst at TransAlta.ย  This position is a full-time permanent role based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

Playing a critical part in shaping how learning is delivered across TransAlta, you'll bring together enterpriselevel LMS expertise (specifically in Success Factors Learning) and modern instructional design to create impactful, scalable learning experiences.

This role sits at the intersection of systems, content, and governance. As the owner of TransAlta's learning ecosystem, you will oversee LMS configuration, integrations, data quality, and compliance, while also designing engaging digital learning solutions that directly support business priorities and performance outcomes.

You will be instrumental in establishing and sustaining governance frameworks, standardised processes, and content lifecycle management and ensuring learning remains relevant, accessible, and measurable over time.

Working within a broader L&D ecosystem, this role partners closely with subject matter experts, HR, IT, and external vendors. The focus is on strategic system optimisation, governance, and priority learning initiatives, rather than endtoend production of all learning content.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Partner with business leaders, HR, IT, and SMEs to identify performance gaps and define measurable learning objectives
  • Align learning solutions to organisational priorities, including safety, compliance, and operational performance
  • Influence adoption of standardised learning systems, processes, and governance frameworks
  • Design and develop highquality digital learning solutions (eLearning, microlearning, blended) using modern authoring tools
  • Apply adult learning principles, accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA), and instructional design methodologies
  • Package and deploy learning content using SCORM/xAPI/AICC standards with validated tracking and reporting
  • Configure and administer LMS components including catalogues, curricula, programmes, and assignments
  • Maintain LMS data integrity, system performance, security, and user access
  • Manage LMS integrations with HRIS and other enterprise systems to enable seamless learner experiences
  • Establish and sustain BAU processes for intake, prioritisation, and content lifecycle management
  • Lead release management, QA, and change control for learning systems and content
  • Define and report on learning effectiveness metrics, translating insights into continuous improvement and adoption initiatives

ABOUT YOU

  • Handson experience with SAP SuccessFactors Learning is essential
  • Bachelor's degree in Educational Technology, HR, Information Systems, Communications, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in enterprise LMS administration and digital learning design, preferably in a corporate or regulated environment
  • Proven experience deploying and managing SCORM/AICC/xAPI content, compliance reporting, and audit support
  • Experience with modern learning tools such as SAP Enable Now, Articulate Storyline and Rise, Camtasia, or Adobe Captivate
  • Advanced proficiency in LMS platforms, including system configuration, reporting, content management, and integrations
  • Strong technical knowledge of eLearning standards, HRIS data models, SSO, data privacy, and security protocols
  • Solid understanding of instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problemsolving skills, with experience using data and dashboards to drive improvement
  • Excellent customer service and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and support change and adoption initiatives

Bonus attributes

  • Professional certifications in instructional design, eLearning, or LMS administration are considered strong assets
  • Experience applying accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and inclusive design practices ย

THE PERKS

  • Competitive salary
  • Annual Incentive Compensation
  • Company-matching pension plan
  • Flexible health benefits for you and your family
  • Generous vacation and personal days
  • Learning and development programs
  • Employee recognition and rewards
