POSITION TITLE: Safety and Security Officer

DIVISION: Administration

DEPARTMENT: Student Affairs

REPORTS TO: Safety and Security Manager

PAY TYPE: Non-Exempt

WORKER TYPE: Full-Time

UPDATED: April 2024

HOURLY PAY: $16.00 (Plus Shift Differential) Evening 3pm-11pm, or Nights 11pm-7am

 

Safety and Security Officer positions are positions tasked with providing basic personal, property and equipment security for all assets, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors on or around the KCAI campus, as well as other KCAI sponsored events. These duties are accomplished by routine security and public safety patrol duties, escort services and other assistance as requested or needed.

 

Essential Functional Responsibilities: 

  • Conducts both foot and vehicle patrols of the KCAI campus
  • Responds to calls for service or other assistance calls
  • Monitors campus electronic surveillance systems and has a basic understanding of its functionality
  • Creates KCAI identification cards and campus access roles
  • Investigates and documents campus incidents 
  • Takes part in safety/evacuation plans for campus facilities
  • Refer students, faculty, staff, guests and visitors to appropriate departments/locations on campus
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Excellent Communication skills - the ability to express oneself and confidently communicate well both orally and in writing to all members of the campus community (faculty, students and staff); skill in basic interviewing techniques; ability to resolve conflicts effectively;
  • Basic knowledge of criminal law and traffic violations;
  • Working knowledge to use basic safety & security equipment and willingness to successfully complete and maintain skill levels in all required training;
  • Personal Leadership - integrity; tolerance; patience; demonstrated good judgment; ability to maintain strong organizational and interpersonal skills; must be pleasant, have the ability to work in a team environment, courteous and maintain a professional attitude and presence;
  • Demonstrated computer experience with current equipment and programs (such as MS Office Suite; Word & Excel) and a working knowledge of Google products (G-mail, Google Docs, Calendar and Contacts.)

 

Required Experience/Education:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Must meet and maintain the license requirements for an unarmed private security license under the provisions of Revised Statutes of Missouri. 

Preferred Experience/Education:

  • Safety & Security Officer/Guard experience
  • Experience working in a collegiate environment
