We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator / COR Administrator to support the ongoing administration, maintenance, and improvement of our Health & Safety Management System and Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.

This is primarily an office-based safety administration and coordination role, with periodic field involvement to support the HSE Manager, supervisors, and project teams. The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping BAAC's safety program organized, audit-ready, compliant, and effective across our operations.

Key Responsibilities

COR & Safety Program Administration

  • Support ongoing COR maintenance, audit preparation, and internal audit activities.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready health and safety records.
  • Review safety documentation for completeness, quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Assist with the development and updating of health and safety policies, procedures, Safe Work Practices (SWPs), and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Track corrective actions, training requirements, inspections, certifications, and other compliance items.
  • Assist with client, regulatory, and third-party audit requirements.
  • Help identify documentation gaps, recurring safety trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Support the preparation of safety reports, statistics, trends, and management information.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to incidents, inspections, training, corrective actions, and other safety activities.

Safety Coordination & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist the HSE Manager with safety planning, initiatives, program development, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating company safety meetings and Health & Safety Committee activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety initiatives across BAAC's operations.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to supervisors and project teams regarding company safety requirements.

Field Support

  • Support the HSE Manager with field staff training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Conduct periodic project site visits and safety inspections.
  • Assist with field verification of Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), hazard controls, inspections, and other required safety documentation.
  • Work with supervisors and employees to reinforce company safety requirements and documentation expectations.
  • Assist in identifying field-level safety concerns and opportunities for improvement.

Client & Project Safety Coordination

  • Communicate with client safety representatives regarding project-specific health and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate safety documentation for pre-job planning and project mobilization.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of:
    • Emergency Response Plans
    • Job Hazard Assessments
    • Project-specific Site Safety Plans
    • Client safety documentation
    • Pre-job safety requirements
  • Support project teams in ensuring client-specific and regulatory requirements are understood and incorporated into project planning.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have:

  • Experience working in construction, telecommunications, industrial operations, or a related health and safety environment.
  • Experience with COR program administration, safety management systems, or audit preparation.
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate, audit-ready records.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, supervisors, field personnel, clients, and third-party representatives.
  • Comfort working in both office and field environments.
  • A valid driver's licence and the ability to periodically travel to project locations.

Preferred Training & Designations

The following qualifications are preferred or considered strong assets:

  • ACSA Certified COR Auditor
  • National Health and Safety Administrator (NHSA) or similar safety designation
  • Principles of Health & Safety Management (PHSM)
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
  • Alberta OHS Legislation Awareness (LEG)
  • Auditor Training Program (ATP)

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant health and safety experience will also be considered.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and dependable, with strong safety administration skills and an interest in supporting both management and field operations.

This position is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys the systems, auditing, documentation, compliance, and coordination side of health and safety, while also wanting to maintain regular involvement with supervisors and employees in the field.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of administrative processes, following up on outstanding safety requirements, identifying gaps before they become issues, and helping maintain a consistent standard across multiple projects.
