POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of our organization, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, you will be responsible for providing practical, solution-based advice to leadership of the NFI Business units regarding legal risks and issues. This position will also contribute to operational and strategic planning, including developing practices to support key messages and business objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide proactive strategic and tactical advice on legal issues on a variety of matters relating to NFI’s businesses, including corporate/commercial, litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Identify legal issues and risks and provide advice regarding the management of those issues and risks.
  • Manage litigation matters and supervise external litigation counsel.
  • Negotiate, draft, review and interpret a wide range of legal agreements and other documents.
  • Provide advice in respect of and manage regulatory, risk prevention and compliance matters.
  • Draft corporate policies and provide advice on governance issues.
  • Assist the NFI Legal team and senior management with corporate, financing, mergers and acquisitions, and other transactions.
  • Liaise with the NFI business units and other functional areas of NFI (e.g., Finance, Tax, Sourcing, etc.)

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Possess a law degree and a current license to practice law in a Canadian or U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least 3-5 years of corporate/commercial legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Advanced problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Exceptional ability to converse in a professional manner and collaborate with all team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and possess initiative to seek improvements.
