Job description

The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) represents more than 1,700 companies in the U.S. and around the globe who play a critical part in providing recycled materials to America's manufacturing industries. Based in Washington, D.C., we promote safe, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible recycling through education, networking, and advocacy.
Reporting to the Chief Economist, the SCMA serves as a key source of market intelligence for ReMA and its members. As the Chief Economist's primary partner, this role analyzes commodity markets, pricing trends, trade flows, and economic indicators across the recycled materials industry, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights that support business decisions, advocacy efforts, and public policy. The ideal candidate enjoys digging into complex datasets, identifying market trends, and helping others understand what the numbers mean.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads analytical coverage of assigned recycled materials sectors, including market conditions, pricing trends, and policy and regulatory developments.
  • Manages multi-month research projects from scoping through delivery, including Industry Yearbook contributions, commissioned studies, and division-specific analyses.
  • Develops and maintains data products such as trackers, dashboards, and recurring market briefs that support departmental and member-facing deliverables.
  • Conducts secondary research on industry markets, pricing, and policy developments; contribute to department-wide analysis of domestic and international trade as needed.
  • Supports and conducts primary research efforts, including member surveys, interviews, and benchmarking studies.
  • Analyzes commodity pricing data, trade statistics, economic indicators, industry trends, and other market intelligence to identify opportunities and emerging developments.
  • Produces clear, well-designed research products, including written reports, slide presentations, and data visualizations.
  • Presents research findings to members and stakeholders at division meetings, committee calls, chapter events, and select industry conferences.
  • Provides timely sector-specific data and analysis to support ReMA's policy and advocacy work.
  • Collaborates closely with the Chief Economist and Research team to ensure analytical consistency, accuracy, and alignment with organizational priorities.

The statements above are intended to describe the general scope and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They do not represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. ReMA reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties as necessary to meet organizational needs.
Requirements

  • Experience in market analysis, economic research, commodity analytics, consulting, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, trade, or a related analytical field.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to translate analytical findings into clear, member-focused materials.
  • Demonstrated experience working with quantitative data and applied economic or market analysis.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, with the ability to create polished, data-driven presentations and visuals.
  • Experience using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, R, or similar analytical tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with one or more recycled materials sectors is a plus; candidates with adjacent industry experience and the ability to ramp quickly will be considered.
  • Comfortable working independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
