The Financial Consultant - Capital Finance is a trusted financial advisor and strategic partner supporting Optum Rx Product & Strategy and Clinical functions. This role plays a critical part in the planning, governance, and execution of the capital portfolio, representing approximately $45M in annual capital spend.


In this role, you will provide financial and operational oversight across capital planning, business case development, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting. You will serve as a key liaison between business leadership, Finance, and enterprise capital governance teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and driving disciplined capital execution.


You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Capital Planning & Governance
    • Provide financial oversight for the Optum Rx Product & Strategy and Clinical capital portfolios
    • Support the development, prioritization, and execution of the capital plan
    • Ensure alignment with enterprise capital governance standards, processes, and controls
    • Deliver visibility into capital investments, benefits realization, and overall financial outcomes
  • Financial Analysis & Decision Support
    • Develop financial models and analyses to support business cases and investment decisions
    • Evaluate capital initiatives and deliver data-driven recommendations to leadership
    • Identify risks and opportunities in capital performance and recommend actionable solutions
  • Forecasting & Performance Management
    • Manage capital forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis processes
    • Deliver accurate and timely reporting to support business decision-making and accountability
    • Drive improvements in forecast accuracy and overall capital efficiency
  • Cross-Functional Partnership
    • Serve as a key liaison between Optum Rx Product & Strategy and Clinical leaders, Finance, and enterprise governance teams
    • Collaborate across functions to align on capital priorities and performance expectations
    • Influence decisions through strong financial insight, communication, and business acumen
  • Process & Reporting Optimization
    • Enhance capital reporting frameworks to improve transparency and insights
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, tools, and operational efficiency
    • Support continuous improvement of capital planning and tracking capabilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in financial planning & analysis, accounting, or related finance roles
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial systems
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial processes and deliver actionable insights
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting capital planning, governance, or investment portfolios
  • Experience working in a matrixed or large enterprise environment
  • Advanced financial modeling and forecasting skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
