Job description

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for safe, on-time transport of customer freight.
  • Inspect truck before and after trips and submit DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) indicating truck condition
    • Lifting of the tractor hood, stooping to inspect tires & tractor body, climbing onto catwalk to inspect air/brake lines.
  • Hook and unhook containers as required, utilizing safety best practices and guidelines
    • This function is repetitive in nature and drivers will back into container with tractor.
  • Pickup and deliver equipment from the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach, customer locations, rail yards, and service center (CFS) within the commercial zone.
  • Opening/Closing of Container doors
    • This function is repetitive in nature. Doors can be rusty and heavy, the use of the entire body is essential to avoid bodily injury. Safety practices must be adhered to.
  • Sweeping of Containers
    • Driver must ensure all containers that are delivered to customers are clean of any debris. This can be repetitive in nature. Driver may be required to climb into container and utilize a broom and dust pan to clean container.
  • Properly cranking landing gear on chassis up/down
    • This is repetitive in nature and requires stooping.
  • Properly attaching air/brake hoses
    • This is repetitive in nature. Driver is required to climb up/down catwalk of tractor utilizing safety practices and guidelines to attach and detach lines.
  • May fill truck with oil, fuel and radiator fluid.
  • Maintain HOS (Hour of Service) log in accordance to state and federal regulations – 49 CFR Part 395.
  • Maintain and provide record on driver’s street sheet for equipment transported from the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach, customer locations, and service center (CFS).
  • Obtain customer’s signature for proof of delivery and/or pickup, as required.
  • Maintain radio or telephone contact with dispatcher or supervisor to receive instructions or to be dispatched to a new location.
  • Must maintain familiarity with and follow all Federal, State, and Local commercial driving regulations.
  • Comply with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and local addendums.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, work rules, and corporate policies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to competently perform job duties described above
  • 2+ years’ experience as commercial driver required
  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with hazardous materials, tankers, and triples endorsements
  • Must have a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Must have and maintain a valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

Physical Capabilities Required:

  • Able to safely execute duties stated above.
  • Able to repetitively lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 100 pounds.
