Staff Software Engineer Rust | Distributed Systems, Security & Platform Architecture

KORE1 Technologies

Santa Clara, CA • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 15 days ago

Job description

Location: Hybrid role based in Santa Clara, CA. Expected to work on-site three (3) days per week.

KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, has an immediate opening for a Staff Software Engineer – Rust | Distributed Systems, Security & Platform Architecture

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Confidential Computing Management team—an engineer who can design, build, and own core platform services powering secure, distributed systems at scale.

We're seeking someone with expert-level Rust development experience who can quickly contribute to our production codebase. Experience with Confidential Computing technologies such as Intel SGX, Intel TDX, AMD SEV-SNP, AWS Nitro Enclaves, or similar Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) is highly desirable.
This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer with deep experience building and shipping commercial software products. You'll shape architecture, lead critical design decisions, and build microservices that are foundational to how our platform operates-ensuring they are secure by design, highly reliable, and built to scale.
The ideal candidate brings expert-level Rust development experience and can immediately contribute to our production codebase. You should be comfortable explaining technical decisions, defending design choices, and writing high-quality, production-ready code in a collaborative engineering environment.

What You'll Do
  • Design and build distributed microservices that power our confidential computing platform across hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Own system architecture end-to-end-from service design and APIs to deployment, scaling, and production reliability
  • Drive technical direction across services, ensuring they fit cohesively into the broader platform architecture
  • Lead system design and API discussions, influencing how services interact across the platform
  • Design and build security-first services for highly sensitive workloads, ensuring systems are resilient, auditable, and secure by design.
  • Write high-quality, production-grade code (Rust) and contribute to critical code reviews
  • Articulate and defend technical decisions through architecture reviews, code reviews, and design discussions, demonstrating clear engineering rationale and tradeoff analysis.
  • Own production services throughout the full software development lifecycle—from design and implementation through testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement—including resolving CI/CD pipeline issues and operational challenges.
  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to deliver complex, cross-functional systems
  • Collaborate across multiple engineering teams and products to build reusable platform capabilities rather than working within a single product area.
  • Thrive in a fast-moving startup environment, balancing multiple priorities while contributing across products and adapting to evolving technical challenges.
  • Mentor and guide engineers, raising the bar on system design, code quality, and engineering rigor
  • Contribute to core components and confidential computing services

What Makes This Role Unique
This isn't just another backend role. You'll be:
  • Building foundational systems, not just features
  • Working directly with highly technical engineering leadership in a fast-moving startup where individual contributions have broad platform impact.
  • Working at the intersection of security, distributed systems, and modern infrastructure
  • Owning architecture decisions that shape the entire platform
  • Solving problems where performance, security, and scale all matter at once

What We're Looking For
Core Experience
  • Experience building and shipping commercial software products through the full product development lifecycle (SDLC), from architecture and implementation through production support and ongoing enhancement
  • Experience contributing across multiple products or shared platform services rather than working exclusively within a single application or feature team.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend and distributed systems expertise
  • Staff title is not required. Candidates who have demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership and architectural ownership are encouraged to apply.
  • Proven experience designing and building microservices from scratch, and understanding how they fit into larger system architectures
  • Experience owning production services through the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, production support, and operational ownership.
  • Strong experience with distributed systems concepts (scalability, reliability, fault tolerance, data consistency)
  • Comfortable operating in an ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities and significant technical ownership.

Technical Skills
  • Expert-level Rust development experience strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to become productive quickly within an existing production codebase, with minimal ramp-up time.
    • Candidates with exceptional systems programming backgrounds in C/C++ who have transitioned to Rust are also encouraged to apply.
    • Go experience alone is generally less transferable for this role.
  • Deep understanding of distributed service architecture, API design, and system design, with demonstrated experience designing and reviewing production APIs for microservices-based platforms.
  • Design, review, and evolve APIs that enable secure, scalable communication between distributed services, ensuring consistency, maintainability, and long-term platform interoperability.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Kubernetes and containerized environments
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • CI/CD and production deployment pipelines
    • Experience taking ownership of code quality, build health, and CI/CD pipeline reliability.
    • Experience working in Linux environments, including debugging and performance tuning
    • Familiarity with data storage systems (SQL/NoSQL, distributed storage, caching)

Security & Systems Mindset
  • Experience building commercial cybersecurity products, cloud security platforms, confidential computing solutions, or other security-first infrastructure software is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with or interest in:
    • Hands-on experience with Confidential Computing technologies or Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), including Intel SGX, Intel TDX, AMD SEV-SNP, AWS Nitro Enclaves, or similar technologies
    • Security infrastructure (key management, encryption, secure storage, access control)

Nice to Have (Not Required)
  • Experience with performance-critical systems or systems programming
  • Exposure to secure AI / privacy-preserving systems
  • Experience with Cassandra or other distributed databases
  • Background in infrastructure platforms or developer platforms
  • Experience building cloud security or security SaaS platforms (e.g., Cloudflare or similar companies).

Compensation depends on experience but is typically $200-250K
