Job description

Description:

The Role: Full-Stack Engineer (Rust)

Who You Are:

You’re a senior full-stack engineer who specializes deeply in Rust and takes ambiguous problems and drives them to completion with minimal oversight. You build across the whole stack - the React/TypeScript front-end that operators and technicians use, the Go cloud API (LiftCloud) that serves it, and the Rust services at the core of the platform: the VTS (Vendor Translation Services) layer and the LiftNet client/server re-architecture. Rust is your center of gravity - the hardest, highest-value work lives there. You’ll own features vertically rather than by layer, split day-to-day ownership with the principal engineer and a second full-stack engineer to remove key-person bottlenecks, and contribute directly to LiftNet’s strategic roadmap - the evolving LiftNet architecture, predictive analytics, and the LN2 Integrator automated-QA effort. If Ownership, Minimal oversight, Small team, Rust, & Remote resonate you, this is your dream role.

Who We Are:

Operating for over 30 years, LiftNet is a pioneer and leader in vertical transportation performance monitoring and management. We are the unbiased Source of Truth in vertical transportation management. Our platform connects, controls, and monitors elevators, escalators, and moving walks for building operators across enterprise, transit, healthcare, and government environments. Accessible from any device, our customers can access real-time analytics and reporting on their vertical transportation portfolio, regardless of geographic location or distribution.

We are scaling the platform, the team, and the enterprise customer base as an independent division within Kings III of America. Real-World Experience. Futureproof Innovation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own features end to end across the stack - front-end (React/TypeScript), cloud API (Go/LiftCloud), and Rust services - rather than working a single layer. However, this role will center around Rust.
  • Do deep Rust work on the VTS (Vendor Translation Services) layer and the LiftNet client/server re-architecture, where your specialization matters most.
  • Read and extend the Go cloud API and build the UI that consumes it correctly, keeping API contracts and data shapes coherent across the stack.
  • Build data-dense, real-time interfaces - dashboards, map views, status panels - that stay performant and legible for building operators and field technicians on desktop and tablet.
  • Design and build client/server distributed-system components aligned to the LiftNet re-architecture.
  • Work across the full architecture: the edge layer (Raspberry Pi, binary/serial protocols), the VTS translation layer, the Go cloud, and AWS (EC2, PostgreSQL/RDS, QuestDB).
  • Operate, debug, and harden the Linux-based services that run on the edge devices and in the cloud.
  • Integrate and translate industrial/OT controller protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, serial).
  • Build regression validation against golden/blessed datasets and packet-level (Wireshark) verification, supporting the LN2 Integrator effort.
  • Contribute to AWS environment setup (Dev/Staging/QA) and security-group hardening, complementing the SOC 2 readiness effort.
  • Partner with the principal engineer and the second full-stack engineer to split ownership across the stack and reduce day-to-day escalation drag.
  • Own day-to-day work across front-end, cloud, and Rust services reliably, without principal-engineer rescue.
  • Deliver predictable, on-time turnaround on committed customer features.
  • Take independent ownership of at least one vertical domain (UI through Rust service) within the first months.
  • Reduce key-person risk across the VTS, the Rust backend, and the front-end.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Masters Degree and other engineering credentials a plus.
  • 5-7 years of Rust engineering experience with senior-level competency.
  • Genuine full-stack capability: production experience building front-ends in React/TypeScript and working server-side APIs (we run Go in the cloud - you must be able to read and extend it).
  • Client/server distributed-system design experience aligned to the LiftNet 3 direction.
  • Demonstrated self-starting autonomy - able to own a domain end to end with minimal direction (non-negotiable for this role).
  • Comfort across the full architecture: the edge layer (Raspberry Pi, binary/serial), the VTS layer, the Go cloud, and AWS (EC2, PostgreSQL/RDS, QuestDB).
  • Deep, hands-on Linux expertise - operating, debugging, and hardening Linux systems from the command line (systems, process/network/file-system troubleshooting, bash scripting, log analysis); both the edge devices (Raspberry Pi) and the cloud services (EC2) run on Linux.
  • Able to build, package, and deploy services on Linux - cross-compilation for ARM/edge targets, containers, and standard build toolchains.
  • Front-end depth on data-heavy, real-time UIs - mapping (Mapbox GL/Leaflet-class), live status, and performance tuning of dense views (a plus).
  • Test-automation mindset - regression validation against golden datasets and packet-level (Wireshark) verification (a plus).
  • Industrial/OT protocol familiarity - OPC UA, Modbus, serial integration (a plus).
  • AWS infrastructure fluency - environment duplication (Dev/Staging/QA) and security-group hardening (a plus).
  • Pragmatic for a small, fast-moving company; automation-first, low ego; communicates bottom-line-first.

What We Do:

Our mission is simple – We provide telemetry and control services to help organizations manage their vertical transportation and guest experience.

Our Core Values are even simpler:

1. Honesty & Integrity

2. Service to the customer above all else

3. Do what is right

4. Good enough is not good enough: pursue excellence

5. Encourage individual initiative and growth

By living and breathing our mission and Core Values every day in everything we do, Kings III and LiftNet are creating opportunities for individuals and reducing risk, liabilities, and costs for businesses every day.

LiftNet provides a powerful layer of intelligence with its highly configurable, OEM-agnostic elevator performance monitoring platform. Designed for multi-site, multi-manufacturer portfolios, LiftNet provides centralized, cloud-based visibility into elevator and escalator activity. Both Kings III’s cutting edge emergency response and LiftNet’s visibility into elevator performance and analytics create a set of solutions that change the game for those properties managing diverse elevator portfolios across locations, brands and service providers. Two Brands, One Unified Vision.

What’s in it For You:
