Job description

Fastly is an edge cloud platform company that helps customers process, serve, and secure applications at the Internet's edge. The Staff Engineer - Edge Protocols role involves designing and implementing software for network protocols and infrastructure that handles client requests and backend communication.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Write, test, and deploy C and Rust code for edge protocol systems
  • Enhance, maintain, and optimize network software implementing protocols including TLS, HTTP, QUIC, and related technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape technical roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and mitigate risks
  • Contribute to open source projects such as h2o and picotls
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and innovation
What You Need
  • Proven ability to design and implement reliable, scalable, lowโ€‘latency systems
  • Significant production experience with C, C++, and/or Rust
  • At least 7 years of domainโ€‘relevant engineering experience
  • Experience with Linux systems and network programming
  • Handsโ€‘on experience building and maintaining distributed infrastructure
  • Proven ability to mentor and support engineer growth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have

Estimated salary range $211,370โ€“$253,644 annually in the US. Role may be eligible for equity and discretionary bonus programs.
