VARSITY ASSISTANT SWIMMING COACH (In charge of Diving)ย 
Valparaiso High School
Qualifications:ย 
? Valid (state) teacher license is preferred but not requiredย 
? Previous coaching experience in swimmingย 
? A solid understanding of the skills and concepts that is fundamental to teaching the sport of swimmingย 
? Flexibility, organization, and a strong work ethicย 
? A vibrant personality that is well suited to work with teenage boys and girlsย 
? Excellent instructional skills and techniquesย 
? Solid conflict resolution and communication skillsย 
? Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.ย 
Job Goal:ย 
? To carry out the aims and objectives of the athletic program as outlined by the Athletic Director and school administrationย 
? To instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. ? At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self discipline and self confidence.ย 
Expectations:ย 
? Maintain high standards as a teacher, both in the classroom and in the swimming pool, while advocating the skills, mission and objectives of the District.ย 
? Promote sportsmanship, be understanding and fair, and put integrity ahead of winning.ย 
? Effectively communicate with players, parents, teachers, media, administrators and other groups within the community.ย 
? Work in collaboration with other head coaches to promote multi-sport student athletes.ย 
? Demonstrate necessary organizational and leadership skills.ย 
? Have experienced past success in coaching swimming in a quality program, and have a strong background in coaching as evidenced by level of position and expertise in coaching.ย 
? Strive to make community connections with your team (i.e. participate in Popcorn Festival Parade, Homecoming Parade, community service initiatives, etc.)ย 
? Other duties assigned by the athletic director.ย 
Responsibilities:ย 
? Assist the Varsity Swimming Coach with organizing and running daily practices as well as attending daily practices.ย 
? Assist the Varsity Swimming Coach with coaching meets and organizing managers.ย 
? Assist the Varsity Swimming Coach with organizing equipment and completing the equipment inventory at the end of the season.ย 
? Implement training sets to develop swimmers' technique and endurance as laid-out by the Head Varsity Coach of the VHS Swimmling Program.ย 
? Attend all meets and practices.ย 
? Participate in high school program team activities and fundraising projects.ย 
? Assist the Varsity Swimming Coach with supervision of athletes at and after practice at VHS.ย 
? Complete all required NFHS coaching classes before working with VHS athletes.ย 
? Assist the Varsity Swimming Coach with concession supervisions, attending coaches meetings, attending parent meetings and attending award events.




































Responsible To: The Head Swimming Coach, Director of Athletics and Building Principal.ย 
Stipend: As stated in the current Valparaiso Community Schools ECA portion of the Teaching Contract. "Assistant Swimming Coach," currently $8,905 (full season stipend).
