Role Snapshot
Step into a hands-on role where youโll set up, optimize, and maintain CNC and manual lathes to keep production running smoothly. Youโll be the go-to expert for troubleshooting, program optimization, and continual process improvementโsupporting operators, partnering with engineering, and reporting directly to the Production Supervisor (with indirect guidance from a Production Lead).
Shifts
- 1st Shift: 6:30 AM โ 3:00 PM
- 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM โ 11:30 PM
A Day in the Life
You start by reviewing your queue, confirming tooling and part fixturing, and calibrating CNC lathesโoften Mazaks and Nakamurasโto meet exacting specs. After a first-piece inspection, you record parameters in the ERP, coach operators/tenders on best practices, and jump in to solve tricky machine issues that could slow production. Youโll partner with other Setup Technicians and the Engineering team to refine programs and setups, trim changeover time, and elevate quality, safety, and throughput. Throughout the day, youโll float between machines as needed, oversee scrap documentation, and keep preventive maintenance on pointโclosing the loop with accurate paperwork and in-process checks.
What Youโll Tackle
- Set up, operate, and make advanced adjustments on CNC lathes (e.g., Mazaks, Nakamuras) to tight tolerances.
- Develop, refine, and maintain CNC programs, tooling, fixturing, and setup sheets to boost efficiency and quality.
- Troubleshoot complex issues to minimize downtime and maintain output.
- Execute setups in your assigned area and assist operators/tenders with changeovers and production runs.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; complete all required quality/production paperwork.
- Capture production and performance data in the ERP system, noting materials, adjustments, and results.
- Guide and train CNC Operators and Tenders on procedures, parts, and standards to hit delivery and quality targets.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement to reduce setup time and elevate methods, quality, and safety.
- Collaborate with Setup Technicians and Engineering to optimize programs and machine performance.
- Maintain current documentation (setup sheets, logs) and oversee scrap processes and records.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance; assist maintenance with advanced tasks to reduce downtime.
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE (safety glasses, steel-toe footwear), and keep work areas clean and organized.
- Float between CNC machines to balance workload and meet demand; perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Manufacturing setting with frequent lifting up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 75 lbs), frequent hand/finger use for equipment adjustments, and moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping. Safety equipment (including safety glasses and steel-toed work boots or shoes) is required when operating machinery.
Schedule & Status
Full-time, 40+ hours per week. Typical schedule is MondayโFriday, eight (8) hours per day. Occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work may be required based on business needs.
