Job description

ShirtSpace is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help architect, build, and scale the systems that power our rapidly growing e-commerce platform. This role is ideal for a seasoned full-stack engineer who thrives in complex technical environments, enjoys solving challenging optimization problems, and wants to see the direct business impact of their code.

At ShirtSpace, we are focused on efficiently connecting people to product. Engineering plays a critical role in building reliable, scalable systems that support our customers, streamline internal operations, and drive long-term growth.

*Please note our office is currently located in Ridgefield, WA but moving to Vancouver, WA July 1, 2026.

What You Will Do

  • Architect & Develop: Build and scale robust full-stack web applications from front-end to backend.
  • Build UIs: Craft high-performance, intuitive user interfaces using React.
  • Power the Backend: Design and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs using Ruby on Rails.
  • Lead Tech Strategy: Partner with engineering leadership on system architecture, scalability, and long-term technical roadmap.
  • Collaborate: Participate in pair programming, technical collaboration, and high-quality code reviews to elevate the team.
  • Innovate: Leverage AI-assisted development tools and emerging technologies to boost productivity and code quality.
  • Balance: Deliver clean, well-documented code while balancing technical excellence with practical business timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience.
  • Strong professional experience building web applications with Ruby on Rails (Required).
  • Strong professional experience building responsive UIs with React (Required).
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and optimizing scalable production APIs and databases.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and performance tuning.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and lead technical problem-solving with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to collaborate cross-functionally (Product, UX, Operations).
  • Must be located within commuting distance of Ridgefield, WA for our hybrid schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Node.js or modern DevOps/cloud infrastructure.
  • Background in e-commerce, logistics, or high-growth technology environments.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools (GitHub Copilot, etc.).
