How will you make your impact?
As the Traction Power Engineering Manager at Linxon, you serve as the primary technical authority for rail electrification substation systems, leading the design, development, and delivery of traction power solutions across light rail, commuter rail, and high-speed rail projects. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, you anchor Linxon's Rail Electrification capability by owning technical strategy from early bid development through detailed design and customer acceptance. You combine deep technical expertise with strong customer engagement, working closely with business development, project teams, suppliers, and end users to deliver safe, compliant, and scalable traction power solutions that enable reliable rail operations.
What will you do?
  • Lead the end-to-end development of traction power engineering design packages by defining technical approaches, guiding primary engineering deliverables, and ensuring compliance with North American standards and project requirements from bid stage through execution.
  • Serve as the technical lead during tenders by collaborating with business development and bid teams to develop viable design concepts, technical clarifications, RFQ responses, and scope definitions that position Linxon for successful project awards.
  • Translate customer requirements, operational constraints, and regulatory standards into practical substation designs, including layouts, one-lines, schematics, and system interfaces that are constructible, maintainable, and operationally robust.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise across traction power systems including DC switchgear, rectifiers/converters, transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, grounding systems, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and related substation equipment.
  • Review vendor technical proposals and quotations by assessing compliance, risk, value, and integration impacts, ensuring selected solutions align with project performance, quality, and lifecycle expectations.
  • Lead and participate in technical, design, and hazard review meetings to identify risks early, resolve technical challenges, and ensure safe and compliant systems before construction and commissioning.
  • Support project execution by providing ongoing technical guidance to project engineers, BIM teams, protection and control engineers, civil teams, and site commissioning personnel as designs transition into installation and testing.
  • Interface directly with customers, consultants, and technical assurance representatives to present design solutions, address technical inquiries, and maintain confidence in Linxon's engineering capability.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and the supply chain to ensure technical alignment, manufacturability, and timely delivery of traction power equipment and systems.
  • Develop engineering effort estimates and support resource planning by defining realistic schedules, engineering scopes, and technical milestones.
  • Train, mentor, and technically guide junior engineers to strengthen Linxon's traction power capability and ensure consistency in engineering quality across projects.

Who you are?
  • You are a traction power engineering professional with deep experience designing rail electrification substation systems for light rail, commuter rail, or high-speed rail applications.
  • You are confident leading technical design efforts and acting as the primary customer-facing engineering authority on complex infrastructure projects.
  • You are highly knowledgeable in traction power equipment and systems, including DC and MV switchgear, rectifiers, transformers, grounding, and auxiliary power systems.
  • You are experienced working in bid and tender environments, contributing to technical proposals, RFQs, and design concepts that support winning strategies.
  • You are collaborative by nature and comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, BIM, supply chain, commissioning, and project management.
  • You are effective at communicating complex technical concepts clearly to customers, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • You are committed to engineering excellence, safety, and compliance and understand how early technical decisions affect constructability, cost, and long-term system performance.
  • You are technically grounded with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and eight or more years of applicable experience; a professional engineering designation is an asset but not required.
