As an RTU Engineer, your daily tasks often include configuring, testing, and maintaining remote terminal units, ensuring seamless communication with SCADA systems, and diagnosing network or hardware issues as they arise. You may also be responsible for programming or modifying RTUs to support new field devices, documenting changes, and collaborating closely with control room staff, field technicians, and third-party vendors. Field visits to remote substations or industrial sites are common, where you’ll conduct equipment inspections and perform software updates. This mix of field and office work provides both technical variety and hands-on experience, making the role especially engaging for engineers interested in automation and process reliability.
