This position is responsible for daily servicing of all RTD vehicles and equipment. This involves checking, filling 'topping off' and recording all fluids, performing daily cleaning, sweeping, dusting and mopping. Also includes driving and parking of vehicles on RTD property, cleaning individual piece parts and sub-assemblies using various chemicals in a safe and professional manner, while maintaining a clean, efficient and safe work area. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment, using prudent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of services to all external and internal customers.
  • Services RTD vehicles, which includes, but is not limited to, checking and 'topping off' all fluids, checking tire inflation pressure and re-stocking Bus Operator supplies.
  • Performs visual inspections of RTD vehicles to identify vehicle damage and/or mechanical problems and reports such issues to supervisor.
  • Performs all phases of interior and exterior RTD vehicle cleaning, which includes, but is not limited to, windows, walls, floors, ceilings, dome lights, hand rails, seats, upholstery, gum removal, graffiti removal, trash removal, air conditioning condensers, accessibility lifts, and wheels.
  • Operates and cares for all shop equipment and tools in a safe and professional manner.
  • Operates RTD vehicles while in strict compliance with RTD policies, directives, and procedures and all Federal and Colorado traffic laws and regulations. This includes using proper defensive driving techniques.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and adherence to all RTD operating policies, directives, and procedures.
  • Removes bus schedules and monthly brochures from the on-board bus schedule racks and stocks new RTD approved monthly brochures.
  • Cleans individual piece parts and sub-assemblies, which includes, but is not limited to, engines, radiators, brake drums, battery compartments, chassis, and wheels.
  • Installs and removes interior RTD approved signs as directed.
  • Interacts with RTD staff and the public in a courteous, professional manner when conducting transit bus trades.

  • All other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • No DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 5 years
  • Ability to pass a RTD required Physical Ability Assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass RTD bus driving training for on property operation of RTD vehicles.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, awkward physical positions, and at various heights.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours, and shifts.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation with RTD employees, armored car personnel and supervisors to maintain schedules and ensure secure effective service and cooperative relationships.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a standard shop environment, which can include, but is not limited to, working with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, and chemicals for an extended length of time as well as in various outdoor weather conditions as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
  • Service and Cleaning Employees opting to have a Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake and passenger endorsement (BP-2) Shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour premium.
  • Service and Cleaning Employees opting to have a CDL must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of a 2-year qualifying period and then maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter.

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with required qualifications as determined in the job analysis.
