Job Summary

RPG is seeking experienced CNC Machinists with expertise operating and machining on medium and large-scale CNC equipment, including Horizontal Boring Mills, Vertical Boring Mills, Vertical Turning Centers (VTC/VTL), and Large CNC Lathes. The ideal candidate will have experience machining large, complex components to precise tolerances while working from engineering drawings, specifications, and CNC programs.

Candidates should possess hands-on experience with large CNC machine brands such as G&L/Thives, PAMA, Schiess, Mitsubishi, and Tacchi, and demonstrate strong setup, operation, troubleshooting, and quality inspection capabilities. This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to safely produce precision-machined components in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, shipbuilding, power generation, or similar environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and adjust medium and large CNC Horizontal Boring Mills, Vertical Boring Mills, Vertical Turning Centers, and Large CNC Lathes.
  • Machine large and complex components to engineering specifications and required tolerances.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices appropriate for machining operations.
  • Verify machine setups and perform first-piece inspections to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Monitor machining operations and make necessary offsets and adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other inspection equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and program-related issues to maximize productivity and quality.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a safe, clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, quality personnel, and manufacturing engineers to improve processes and resolve production issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating medium to large CNC machining equipment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following machine manufacturers: G&L/Thives, PAMA, Schiess, Mitsubishi, or Tacchi.
  • Proven ability to machine large components using Horizontal Boring Mills, Vertical Boring Mills, Vertical Turning Centers, or Large CNC Lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and work-holding methods.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
  • Must be able to pass a RPG background check and hair follicle test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNC setup and program editing experience.
  • Experience machining large fabricated, cast, or forged components.
  • Previous experience in shipbuilding, power generation, heavy manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or industrial equipment industries.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, or trade school certification in machining technology.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials, tooling, and equipment in accordance with company safety requirements.
  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment around large machinery and heavy components.
