Role Summary

At T. Rowe Price, the mission of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) function is to empower the firm to achieve its strategic objectives through the optimal use of technology. The EA function will align technology with business capabilities to enable effective strategy execution and business transformation. By monitoring and adopting emerging technologies, EA will drive technology enabled innovation and keep the firm ahead of industry disruption.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Platforms Architecture to join our team. This role will provide enterprise-level leadership and direction for platform and infrastructure architecture, with accountability for strategy, standards, roadmaps, governance, and operating model alignment across multiple technology domains and teams. The role will lead directly and through senior architects, engineering leaders, and cross-functional partners to deliver scalable, secure, and business-aligned technology platforms. This role will also be playing a lead role in M&A technology due diligence and integration planning, applying platform architecture to accelerate integration and synergy generation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise architecture, excellent leadership abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of both technical platform ecosystems that accelerate software delivery, and underlying infrastructure design, including but not limited to cloud, networking, compute, storage, and end user computing.

Focus:

  • Oversee enterprise perspective on common enterprise platforms that are leveraged firm-wide to unlock scalability and improved productivity.
  • Drive for common standards and usage of platforms and infrastructure across the firm while pushing to eliminate legacy redundancy.
  • Leverage the voice of engineers and software development lifecycle as a guide, to define the future state of technical platforms, which absorbs heaving liftings of solving recurring technical problems into the platform layer, and free up developers to focus on business features.
  • Focus the future state architecture across public cloud and on premise infrastructure at the conceptual and logical level, and partner closely with platform engineering, and infrastructure teams to translate into physical design.
  • Design and oversee the operating model for platform and infrastructure architecture across multiple teams, ensuring clear ownership, decision rights, review forums, and lifecycle accountability for enterprise technology platforms.
  • Spearhead M&A technology due diligence, integration planning, execution of integrating infrastructure and technology landscape between T Rowe Price and target entities.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Development:
    • Develop and maintain the technical platform and infrastructure architecture strategy and roadmap.
    • Ensure alignment of platform architecture with the organization's business objectives and IT strategy to increase speed of delivery.
    • Ensure alignment of infrastructure architecture with the organization's business growth ambition for scalability and flexibility.
    • Advise and provide consulting for new technologies to modernize infrastructure capabilities and improve efficiency.
    • Make architecture decisions guided by long-term business strategy, enterprise priorities, risk posture, and approved operating plans, balancing near-term delivery needs with long-term scalability, resiliency, and total cost of ownership.
  • Architecture Design and Implementation:
    • Lead the design and deployment of robust, scalable, and secure technology platforms and infrastructure.
    • Ensure technical platforms and infrastructure adhere to enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
    • Oversee the integration of various platforms and infrastructure components within the enterprise technology landscape.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Provide leadership and direction to architects, engineers, and technology leaders, including leadership through subordinate managers or senior technical leads, to deliver enterprise platform and infrastructure outcomes across multiple teams.
    • Collaborate with IT leaders, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of platform and infrastructure modernization projects.
    • Provide expert guidance on technology platform and infrastructure architecture to various teams within the organization.
    • Build and maintain a wide internal and external network across business, technology, vendor, and industry communities, leveraging those relationships to influence architecture direction and deliver outcomes.
  • Governance and Compliance:
    • Establish and enforce policies, standards, and guidelines for technology platform and infrastructure architecture.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies for all platform and infrastructure solutions.
    • Conduct regular reviews and audits of platform and infrastructure architecture to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Articulate broader business, risk, control, and regulatory considerations impacting platform and infrastructure architecture, including data privacy, resiliency, cybersecurity, financial controls, and applicable regulatory expectations.
    • Establish and manage architecture review practices for major platform and infrastructure initiatives, ensuring in-flight work remains aligned to enterprise standards, target-state architecture, risk requirements, and business objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in technology platform and infrastructure architecture, focusing on optimization and modernization.
    • Stay informed about the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
    • Implement best practices for platform and infrastructure performance tuning and optimization.
