Position Overview

We are seeking a Farm Supervisor to oversee daily field operations and coordinate farm labor, crop management activities, and compliance requirements. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient field execution, maintaining accurate pesticide and food safety records, and coordinating closely with consultants and field scouts. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and capable of managing both people and operational details in a fast-paced agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Management 

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of farm labor crews
  • Assign field tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and safely
  • Monitor productivity and provide direction to workers as needed
  • Ensure workers follow farm safety procedures and operational standards
  • Communicate daily work plans and expectations clearly

Crop Management Coordination

  • Work closely with crop consultants, agronomists, and field scouts
  • Assist in implementing crop protection and fertility recommendations
  • Monitor fields for crop health, pest pressure, and disease presence
  • Report field conditions and issues to farm management

Equipment Oversight

  • Verify calibration of sprayers and dry fertilizer spreaders
  • Ensure proper setup and operation of application equipment
  • Inspect machinery before use and report mechanical issues
  • Coordinate with mechanics or management for equipment maintenance

Pesticide Compliance & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate pesticide application records
  • Ensure applications follow label requirements and regulatory standards
  • Track product usage, application dates, and field locations
  • Assist with regulatory inspections if required

Pesticide Storage Management

  • Oversee proper storage of pesticides and crop protection products
  • Ensure chemical storage areas remain secure and organized
  • Maintain inventory and monitor product expiration dates
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations

Food Safety & Harvest Documentation

  • Maintain food safety compliance records
  • Ensure proper completion of harvest logs and traceability documentation
  • Collect required food safety signatures for field and harvest activities
  • Support farm compliance with GAP or other food safety certifications

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of pesticide application and agricultural chemicals
  • Experience with sprayer and spreader calibration
  • Understanding of basic agronomy and crop production practices

Leadership & Organizational Skills

  • Strong leadership and crew management abilities
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple field operations
  • Effective communication with management, consultants, and workers

Administrative Skills

  • Accurate record keeping and documentation skills
  • Ability to maintain regulatory compliance records
  • Basic computer or mobile record-keeping ability

Additional Valuable Skills

  • Experience with irrigation management
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting of farm equipment
  • Inventory management for inputs and supplies

Language Requirements

  • English: Required
  • Spanish: Strongly Preferred (to communicate effectively with labor crews)

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to walk fields and inspect crops regularly
  • Ability to lift and handle agricultural materials when necessary, 40+ pounds

Preferred Experience

  • Previous farm supervisor or crew leader experience
  • Background in vegetable, row crop, or specialty crop production
  • Familiarity with agricultural compliance and food safety standards
