Job Summary
The Engineering Manager will function as a key member of the Baltimore leadership team. This individual will lead the project engineering team and will be responsible for providing project engineering services to the organization by coordinating development between Production, Maintenance, Technical Services, Supply Chain, Research and Development, and Quality Assurance.
Essential Duties

  • Coordinate development, submission, and approval of annual and five-year capital plan(s). Coordinate, update, and maintain the strategic roadmap for the site.

  • Ensure successful completion of the Site Capital Project Plan meeting the objectives of the projects, on-time and on-budget as planned. Host Quarterly review with plant leadership. Serve as the primary point of contact for rapid response engineering efforts to address high-priority, tight timeline efforts across the site.

  • Maintain and update accurate site capital spending forecasts and provide project and spending updates to site leadership. Ensure site monthly fixed asset additions/retirements are completed along with annual fixed asset auditing.

  • Responsible for reviewing Authority For Capital Expenditure (AFCE) requests to ensure they are aligned with the strategic direction of the company, and that they comply with GAF Capital Spending policies and procedures. Review new equipment designs and recommend modifications to minimize cost, support production needs, and enhance safety.

  • Develop and present business cases to Senior Leadership for large capital projects. Support Senior Director with large capital project preliminary review submissions (Large Capital Intake Process).

  • Support new product development and manufacturing with equipment/material development, installation, and start-up.

  • Set the standard within the department for documentation control (AutoCAD drawings file standards, MOC's for equipment installs & modifications, etc.)

  • Serve as the site technical expert for equipment and process-related issues. Support and participate in plant problem-solving in mechanical, electrical, and instrument are as requested by Production/Maintenance. Provide technical engineering support for the Plant continually. (participate in RCFA process for operations looking for future Capital project improvements).

  • Proactively evaluate value-added benefits of short-term and long-term continuous improvement opportunities through capital project execution.

  • Maintain thorough engineering standards for project design and execution, feasibility analysis, equipment standards, safety, construction, execution, and site implementation.

  • Evaluate and design new equipment systems, and recommend modifications for continuous improvement to minimize cost, optimize maintenance and production capabilities, and enhance safety.

  • Provide support for corporate-level initiatives throughout the life cycle of the project's activities. Set the department standard for Capex cost tracking. Manage Capex project within 10%, detail report out to leadership.

  • Ensure that complete plant drawings exist and P&IDs are kept up-to-date.

  • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate all site project engineers to ensure adequate capabilities and provide a talent pipeline for the greater organization. Identifying development opportunities for direct reports. Ensure training of individuals in technical engineering skills, GAF project management methodology, leadership, communications, and business acumen. Manage the plant project Engineering Co-op Program to evaluate talent and prepare engineering students for roles as full-time project engineers at GAF creating a pipeline of rotation engineering candidates.

  • Drive engagement between the Project Engineering team and the Front Line Operations team. Serve as Primary liaison between the Site and the Corporate Project Engineering team.


Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • 10 years' engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Experience managing and leading teams directly. Proven record of developing Engineers.

  • Experience in Project Management with a demonstrated record of success.


Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), Root Cause Analysis, Variable Process Control, and Kepner Tregoe Rational Process

  • Detailed Engineering capability applicable to a Continuous Web manufacturing process

  • Advanced skills in project planning, project estimation, and engineering resource allocation

  • Intermediate skills in Autocad, and ability to read detailed machine drawings.

  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and listening

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Demonstrated skill in problem solving, statistical expertise and leading problem solving teams

  • Intermediate financial/budgetary understanding including project management budgetary understanding and capabilities

  • Ability to lead and direct the work


Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience working in a continuous web manufacturing environment

  • Experience and application of standard Manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Demonstrated expertise in a multi-discipline engineering role

  • Advanced degree and/or professional registration

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.Base Salary Range: $136,000-$187,000
