Reports to: Chef, Culinary Director

Classification: Non-exempt

Position Summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served complying with all applicable sanitation, health, safety and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. The Cook may also responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.

Essential Job Duties

  1. This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
  1. Correctly prepares food served following standard recipes and carefully follows special diet orders, i.e. diabetic, mechanical soft, cardiac diet, gluten free, etc.
  2. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved.
  3. Apportion food for serving.
  4. Maintain daily production records.
  5. Keep work area neat and clean at all times, including keeping all food preparation areas (excluding areas in resident units) maintained in accordance with Louisiana Sanitary Code. Clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation.
  6. Complete food temperature checks before service.
  7. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors promoting a homelike environment.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) is preferred.
  2. Must meet all healthcare requirements, including Tuberculosis skin test.
  3. Must be in positive standing with all healthcare agencies, including the Direct Services Workers Registry.
  4. Prior experience in related food service positions required.

Mental Demands:

Work requires adherence to precise procedures and standards involving a high degree of accuracy in observing, recording and reporting data. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information accurately.

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

This position is very active and requires frequent standing/walking and repetitive motions, frequent bending/stooping, reaching, lifting/handling, pushing/pulling and occasional carrying. The employee must frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds and the frequency of treatments may vary.
