Project Ropa is a Los Angeles nonprofit celebrating its 10th year of advancing environmental sustainability and economic opportunity by recovering new and gently used clothing and redistributing it to individuals experiencing homelessness and financial hardship. We believe clothing is more than a basic necessity. It is essential for securing employment, maintaining health, accessing housing, attending school, and restoring dignity. As a lean organization with an annual operating budget of less than $250,000, Project Ropa leverages an average of $1.2 million in donated clothing and hygiene essentials each year. This approach maximizes every philanthropic dollar while reducing textile waste and serving thousands of individuals throughout Los Angeles County.
As we begin our second decade of service, we are seeking passionate board members to help guide the organization's future. We are especially interested in individuals with experience in entrepreneurship, textiles or apparel, recycling and the circular economy, small business ownership, or nonprofits focused on meeting basic needs. The Board of Directors meets at least once each month for one to two hours at a time. Board members provide strategic leadership, strengthen community partnerships, support fundraising efforts, and help ensure the long-term success of our mission. If you are looking for an opportunity to apply your professional experience to create lasting social and environmental impact, we encourage you to join our Board of Directors.
