Job description

Our Public Works team is seeking a Streets and Stormwater Operator to support day-to-day operations. This position is responsible for assisting in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of city streets, alleys, storm drainage systems, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.

Principal Duties:

  • Perform seasonal projects such as asphalt repair, street maintenance, building and remodeling, striping operations, weed control, mowing, and spraying.
  • Operate trucks and snowplows; set up and manage traffic barricades.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, motor graders, rollers, compactors, welders, backhoes, water trucks, street sweepers, and sanders for various street construction and maintenance projects.
  • Operate heavy motor graders to prepare sub-grade surfaces and accurately grade roads to finish specifications for hot-mix asphalt paving or other blue-top surfaces; perform complex and skilled grading operations.
  • Operate specialized equipment, including steel-wheeled rollers for asphalt finishing and crack-sealing equipment.
  • Use light machinery and power tools such as power washers, rollers, cement mixers, tractors, pickups, and various hand tools.
  • Maintain stormwater systems, including cleaning, excavation, repair, and replacement of stormwater lines and mains, using hydro-jetting and vacuum equipment.
  • Perform regular catch-basin inspection and maintenance.
  • Ensure proper traffic control setups and adherence to safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-4 years of relevant experience in street and stormwater operations or closely related work.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements
  • Ability to work on-call and overtime as needed
  • Confined Space certification preferred
  • RSI certification preferred
