Breakdown Roller Operator
 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our team at Amrize Canada Construction as a night shift Breakdown Roller Operator and contribute to the creation of high-quality asphalt roadways. As a Breakdown Roller Operator, you'll play a crucial role in the final stages of road construction, ensuring smooth and durable surfaces. This position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment and a dynamic team in the asphalt industry.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Conduct multiple roller passes over the asphalt to ensure the initial breakdown compaction before intermediate and final smoothness compaction rolling.
  • Responsible for completing and documenting a daily pre-trip equipment inspection prior to starting the work.
  • Operate machinery to compact asphalt and create smooth road surfaces.
  • Collaborate with paving crews to ensure proper alignment and compaction of asphalt layers.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections on equipment to identify any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Adjust roller settings to achieve desired compaction levels and surface finishes and monitor asphalt temperature and moisture levels to optimize compaction efficiency.
  • Work in coordination with other equipment operators and laborers to complete paving projects on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily production logs and equipment maintenance reports.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and address any issues that arise.
  • Follow company policies and procedures to uphold quality standards and promote a positive work culture.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Training/Certifications: Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Additional Requirements:

  • Previous experience operating roller equipment or similar machinery in asphalt paving preferred.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and industry best practices.
  • Ability to interpret paving plans and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required by project schedules.
  • Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in outdoor environments.
  • Dedication to following company policies, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines at all times.
  • Must be comfortable working night shift
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
