Robotics Software Engineer Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics Software Engineer (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Software Engineer working remotely, you need expertise in programming languages like C++ and Python, a background in robotics or computer engineering, and preferably a relevant degree. Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System), simulation tools such as Gazebo, and version control systems like Git are commonly required, along with experience in cloud collaboration platforms. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and clear communication skills help you excel in distributed teams and manage complex projects independently. These skills and qualities are crucial to develop, test, and deploy robust robotics solutions efficiently while collaborating virtually with multidisciplinary teams.

How do Robotics Software Engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams in a remote work environment?

Robotics Software Engineers working remotely often use a combination of virtual meetings, collaborative platforms, and remote access tools to coordinate with hardware teams. Regular video conferences and shared documentation ensure alignment on integration points, testing schedules, and system requirements. Engineers may also use simulation environments to test code before deploying it to physical hardware, reducing the need for constant onsite presence. Effective communication and clear documentation are essential to overcome the challenges of working with physical devices from a distance.

What does a Robotics Software Engineer do in a remote role?

A Robotics Software Engineer working remotely designs, develops, and maintains software that controls robotic systems. This may include programming robot behaviors, integrating sensors, working with simulation environments, and troubleshooting software issues. Remote engineers often collaborate with teams using online communication tools, and may test code through simulators or by connecting to physical robots at a distance. Strong skills in programming languages like C++ or Python and familiarity with robotics frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System) are typically required.

About us

Invoice Simpleis the leading invoice app, and still growing rapidly. Over the years we've supported hundreds of thousands of delighted customers using our highly rated iOS and Android apps and our website.

Invoice Simple is the simplest way to invoice customers, and one of the fastest growing EverCommerce brands. Our customers are contractors, freelancers, owner-operators, creatives, and other small business owners. We help them save time, stay organized and look professional. We provide the tools for a diverse group of hundreds of thousands of small businesses and solopreneurs around the world to run the business they want on their own terms.

We work with Typescript and React-based frameworks like NextJS and React Native. Our server-side components are implemented in Typescript, running on Node, Mongo and PostgreSQL.

We believe in releasing fast and continuous delivery. Supported by the team, every member is responsible for their own changes, from design through development and automated testing to deployment to production. We're focused on continually improving our craft and each other. We engage directly on business issues and move quickly to make and keep our product the top invoicing app in the world. We're helping entrepreneurs do what they love - and get paid!

We are looking for a passionate, experienced software developer with 5+ years of experience behind you and you are ready to provide technical guidance and direction to a team of developers through the design, implementation, and automated/integration testing.

About you

You are keen on adopting the best engineering practices for running, monitoring and maintaining complex software. You bring a diverse knowledge base that you use to help the team solve complex technical problems.

You have a history of delivering successful projects, as well as some lessons learned from failures. You easily establish relationships and networks with senior internal and external stakeholders, adjusting your communication style to different audiences, often advising others on complex technical matters.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, quickly asking and answering questions from teammates. You understand that sharing and obtaining knowledge is inherently valuable, and you prioritize getting work done through collaboration over solving problems alone.

You are passionate about software development and have strong opinions on how software should be built. At the same time, you respect and value the strong opinions of others and are happy to follow your teammates' decisions when appropriate.

Responsibilities:

You will be a technical reference on a small, highly focused team of engineers with the mission of building and supporting the long-term growth of Invoice Simple's platform.

  • Work with engineering and product stakeholders to refine the product roadmap.

  • Being up to date with new technologies, frameworks and tooling that can improve the software development lifecycle

  • Help planning and driving execution of product features, taking active part in software development activities, implementing and shipping code.

  • Take a leading role in product refinement sessions, and ensure that your team delivers high-quality, scalable software solutions that address both customer and business goals.

  • Ensure your team's solutions are easy to support by encouraging good, scalable design, adopting best engineering practices, and setting the bar for quality.

Skills and Experience needed for success in this role:
  • 3+ years of professional industry experience delivering scalable software solutions as a software engineer

  • 2+ years of experience building smooth, modern apps using React, Typescript, and Tailwind

  • Curious, data-driven, and you love to ask questions

  • Passionate for crafting innovative, scalable and robust solutions for open-ended problems

  • Familiarity with Cloud computing services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)

  • Understanding of common software vulnerabilities and how to address them

  • Deep understanding of the NodeJS ecosystem, and both backend and frontend associated tooling (Webpack, Vite, etc)

  • Extensive expertise in database modeling and caching technologies, across both relational and document stores (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc)

  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and construction

  • Experience with large-scale 3rd party integrations

  • Worked across applications in multiple paradigms (object-oriented, functional)

  • Familiarity with modern version control and continuous integration solutions (Git, Docker, Github Actions)

  • Passionate about automated testing and quality code reviews

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and tools (JIRA, Scrum, Kanban)

  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills

Nice to have:
  • Worked with massively adopted (100k+ users) applications, either web or mobile

  • Mobile application development experience with React Native

  • Web application development experience with NextJS, with focus on building server-side components

  • Familiarity with modern AI tooling and usage (Claude Code, Cursor)

  • Experience managing in-app subscriptions across multiple platforms

  • Familiarity with setting up data-driven experiments and AB-tests

  • Leadership experience, with a proven ability to mentor and grow the engineering skills of your teammates

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or related field

Where:
