Robotics Software Developers focus on programming and developing software for robotic systems, while Mechatronics Engineers work on designing and integrating mechanical, electronic, and software components. Both roles often collaborate but differ mainly in their core responsibilities and skill sets.

What are some common challenges faced by robotics software developers in integrating hardware and software components?

Robotics Software Developers often encounter challenges related to ensuring seamless communication between software algorithms and diverse hardware components like sensors, actuators, and controllers. Differences in hardware specifications, real-time constraints, and debugging low-level hardware interactions can add complexity to development. Collaborating closely with hardware engineers is essential to address issues quickly and optimize system performance. Staying up to date with new frameworks and tools, such as ROS (Robot Operating System), also helps streamline integration and testing.

What does a robotics software developer do?

A Robotics Software Developer designs, develops, and maintains the software that controls robotic systems. They write code that enables robots to sense their environment, make decisions, and perform tasks autonomously or semi-autonomously. These developers often work with embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to improve robot performance. Their work is essential for applications ranging from manufacturing automation to healthcare and service robots.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a robotics software developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Software Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python, or ROS, along with a background in computer science, engineering, or robotics. Familiarity with robotics simulation platforms (e.g., Gazebo), version control systems (e.g., Git), and experience with sensor integration and real-time operating systems are typically required. Problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication are essential soft skills to excel in multidisciplinary environments. These abilities ensure reliable development, integration, and deployment of robotic systems that meet both technical and user requirements.

Job description

MarketSphere Unclaimed Property offers a full suite of unclaimed property services including audit defense, voluntary disclosure agreements, risk assessments, corporate asset recovery, and annual compliance. Our Innovation Center supports these efforts by delivering modern, secure, and scalable software solutions that drive client success and internal efficiency.

We are seeking a Technical Product Manager to join our Innovation Center team. In this role, you will act as the critical liaison between business stakeholders and software development teams, guiding the design and delivery of impactful technology solutions. You'll be responsible for managing technology projects from initiation through deployment, shaping both functional and technical designs, and ensuring solutions are aligned with business strategy and operational integrity.

This is not a development role, but it does require a strong technical foundation. You should be comfortable facilitating architectural conversations, modeling system workflows, and translating business needs into clear, actionable deliverables. Many of the problems we solve involve sensitive, mission-critical data, so an appreciation for secure and reliable application design is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of technology initiatives with cross-functional teams
  • Elicit, compile, analyze, and document business requirements and functional specifications
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies and automation opportunities, and recommend solutions
  • Translate regulatory requirements into clear, testable specifications for development and QA teams to act on
  • Collaborate with development team, business stakeholders, and customers to design technology solutions
  • Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation to support development
  • Manage project scope, timelines, dependencies, and risk mitigation across initiatives
  • Facilitate effective meetings and development ceremonies to keep teams aligned and productive
  • Drive change management initiatives, ensuring the team and stakeholders are prepared and supportive of project changes.
  • Create and validate test plans and user acceptance criteria to ensure delivery quality
  • Promote structured communication, clear documentation, and informed decision-making
Qualifications
  • 5+ years in technical business analysis, systems analysis, project management, or product management roles
  • Knowledge of state unclaimed property regulations and reporting requirements is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Mathematics, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience authoring high-quality user stores and requirements artifacts (BRDs, functional specs, acceptance criteria) for development teams
  • Demonstrated ability to align technical implementation with strategic business goals
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (Agile, Scrum, or hybrid models)
  • Exceptional communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with product management and planning tools such as Jira, DevOps, Visio, etc.
  • Experience delivering secure systems in regulated environments (HIPAA, GLBA, PCI, ISO, etc.)
  • Experience with automation, data integration, and workflow design (e.g., ETL, RPA, AI automation platforms)
  • Experience with enterprise software platforms (ERP, CRM, BI) is a strong plus
