CPH is a multi-disciplined Engineering and Architectural design firm that ranks in the nation’s Top 500 Design Firms by ENR Magazine.
CPH has an opening for the following position: Survey Crew Chief.
The Survey Crew Chief oversees survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection, and effectively communicating with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives. This role focuses in utilizing advanced surveying technology and techniques, providing direction and expertise, and ensuring data accuracy for key infrastructure developments.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives to ensure thorough preparation for survey activities.
  • Gather field survey data using conventional, robotic, and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods. This includes setting up, adjusting, and operating various surveying equipment such as electronic total stations (Topcon GPT series), robotic total stations (Topcon GT-503 and GT-603), data collectors (FC-500’s up to FC-6,400’s), and GPS equipment (Topcon HiPer VR’s).
  • Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment to measure distances, elevations, and angles. Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated as needed.
  • Utilize TOPCON Magnet surveying software for data collection and processing. Must be proficient in using this software for survey tasks.
  • Prepare field notes and sketches, perform surveying calculations using engineering calculators, laptops, and PCs. Analyze Traverses and benchruns for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy using coordinate geometry (Cogo) software.
  • Perform field surveying for various projects including roadways, bridges, and flood control projects. This includes construction layout, establishing vertical and horizontal control, and locating or establishing right-of-way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
  • Effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders. Receive and send files to and from the office using email, FTP sites, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.
  • Be willing to work out of town for up to two weeks at a time and be available for occasional nighttime/third shift work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements:
  • Proficiency in operating surveying equipment and using TOPCON Magnet software.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to handle data transfer and file management.
  • Excellent skills in field surveying, data collection, and calculation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Adaptable and receptive to instruction from others.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with a team
  • Excellent oral, written and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate project deadlines.
  • Ability to work out of town and adapt to different schedules, including nighttime or third shift work.
  • Detail oriented, quality conscious, reliable and self-motivated.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record
Education and Experience: 
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Relevant certification or technical training in surveying technology and equipment is a plus.
