Job description

SUMMARY

Under the Senior Manager of Projects' supervision, this position would be responsible for several large-scale projects in the range of $5 - $10 million. oversee all aspects of projects from order acknowledgement to customer acceptance, acting as project and customer liaison. This includes all elements and phases of large robotic automation projects including areas such as system definition leading directly to layout approval, scope adherence, problem solving, conflict resolution, schedule adherence, cost tracking, change orders, documentation, and customer liaison. Work with highly skilled mechanical, electrical, and software professionals to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget to the highest levels of safety and quality. Significant travel to customer and third-party vendor sites will be required to conduct project meetings and during project start-up and commissioning. This position may also work on project tasks under the supervision of a Project Manager - Level 3.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for all aspects of assigned projects/contracts from order acknowledgement to customer acceptance.

  • Updates project Risk Assessment as established at the beginning of the project. Risk Assessments must be updated monthly through the life cycle of the project.
  • Responsible to create, maintain and chair project Steering Group meetings with management on a monthly basis, including areas such as cash flow, margin, project percentage complete, schedule, major outstanding risks, etc.
  • Conduct customer site visits to verify, clarify, and obtain all project information.
  • Establish and prioritize applicable customer and internal project specifications.
  • Create and maintain system layout drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Generate detailed "Design Request" forms for all designs, adhering to specifications as per priorities established.
  • Participate with the project group to conduct a System Safety Risk Analysis according to the applicable safety standard.
  • Ensure all projects being transitioned to Customer Support are well documented and all issues are resolved.
  • Ensure timely customer approvals for layout, schedule, electrical drawings, functional spec, etc.
  • Responsible for the communication of project budget and schedules to all internal departments and ensure timely monthly updates as the project progresses.
  • Schedule and chair meetings to review budgets and schedules with project team.
  • Participate in the monthly Project Update Meeting with the senior management.
  • Responsible for creating project specifications for the purchase of all out-sourced third-party equipment as well as processing change orders as required.
  • Responsible for delegating all shipping, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Problem solve in order to assist in "as-built" resolution of technical issues.
  • Ensure all documents are ready for customer run-off, including relevant manuals for training.
  • Responsible for arranging, leading, and documenting of "Post Mortem" meetings.
  • Working with the customer, as well as Customer Support, ensure approved run-off script is generated as well as conducting internal run-off and signed customer run-off.
  • Support Customer Support with warranty issues as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in BSME or BSEE from four-year college or universityor equivalent combination of formal training/education and experience.
  • Three (3) to Seven (7) years' experience working in an industrial / engineering / automation environment in a project management capacity.
  • PMP Certification would be considered an asset.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Spoken/written knowledge of additional languages an asset.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplined environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, the public, customers, partners, and any other potential stakeholders.

  • Effective organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills, with ability to prioritize work to meet the customer's deadlines without compromising service.
  • Solid knowledge in mechanical design is essential, and knowledge in electrical design basics, as well as pneumatic controls would be an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project and 2D AutoCAD.

TRAVEL

This position requires up to 40% travel including domestic and international. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
