Job description

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead our Automated Test Software (ATS) team. This team develops software used in manufacturing to program and electrically verify product assemblies, confirm product functionality, and ensure product conformance. The manager will oversee software development and delivery while providing technical and organizational leadership, managing staffing and employee performance, addressing project and operational risks, and driving continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Automated Test Software team, providing mentorship, guidance, and support for employees' professional growth.
  • Oversee the development, integration, deployment, and maintenance of reliable software used to program, test, and verify X-ES products.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Test, Design Verification, Hardware Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and support production needs.
  • Establish and promote effective software engineering practices, including design reviews, code reviews, version control, automated testing, and continuous integration.
  • Ensure software solutions are appropriately tested, documented, maintainable, and suitable for use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Guide the team in diagnosing complex problems involving interactions among software, hardware, and test equipment.
  • Manage priorities, resources, schedules, and risks to support successful project delivery and manufacturing operations.
  • Evaluate and introduce technologies, tools, and methods that improve software quality, engineering efficiency, and test effectiveness.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that promotes open communication, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support staffing and workforce planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering and organizational leadership to continuously improve development and test processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Seven or more years of applicable engineering experience in a professional environment.
  • Experience developing software that interfaces with programmable devices, embedded hardware, electronic systems, test equipment, or similar low-level systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed technical and organizational decisions.
  • Ability to work onsite at our facility located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway in Verona, Wisconsin.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Two or more years of experience in a managerial or engineering leadership role.
  • Experience developing automated test software or software used to program, configure, test, or verify electronic assemblies in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical background in software development, testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Proficiency with programming and scripting languages used for embedded systems or automated testing.

  • Knowledge of software development life-cycle approaches, including Agile and waterfall methodologies.
