What is a robotics analyst?

Robotics Analysts are professionals who study, evaluate, and optimize robotics systems and technologies. They analyze data from robotic operations, provide insights to improve efficiency, and help design solutions for integrating robotics into various industries. Their role often involves troubleshooting, system performance monitoring, and recommending upgrades or new technologies. Robotics Analysts frequently collaborate with engineers, programmers, and project managers to ensure robotics systems meet organizational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a robotics analyst?

To thrive as a Robotics Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, programming proficiency (often in Python, C++, or ROS), and a background in robotics, engineering, or computer science. Familiarity with robotics simulation tools (like Gazebo or MATLAB), data analysis platforms, and certifications in robotics or automation technologies are highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret complex data and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for optimizing robotic systems, ensuring efficient automation processes, and driving innovation in robotics applications.

What are some common challenges faced by robotics analysts when integrating new robotic systems into existing workflows?

Robotics Analysts often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility between new robotic systems and legacy equipment, managing data integration, and minimizing workflow disruptions during implementation. They must also address staff training needs and troubleshoot unexpected technical issues that arise during deployment. Proactive communication with cross-functional teams and thorough testing are key strategies for overcoming these challenges and ensuring a smooth integration process.

What is the difference between Robotics Analyst vs Robotics Engineer?

AspectRobotics AnalystRobotics Engineer

Job description

Robotics and Automation Specialist (RELOCATION OFFERED)

Robotics and Automation Specialist (Relocation Offered)
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Robotics and Automation Specialist to design, implement, and maintain advanced automation solutions for high-volume manufacturing. The role focuses on integrating industrial robots, PLCs, and control systems to improve throughput, quality, and safety. You will lead automation projects from concept through commissioning, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate with engineering, operations, and vendor partners. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design and program PLC-based control systems and develop HMI/SCADA interfaces to support automated production lines.
  • Specify, program, and commission industrial robots and robot cells (pick-and-place, welding, material handling, assembly) to meet production objectives.
  • Integrate sensors, drives, actuators, and safety systems into cohesive automation solutions and ensure compliance with machine safety standards.
  • Perform system integration, FAT/SAT testing, and on-site commissioning; validate performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, control, and robotic issues on the production floor to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.
  • Develop and maintain electrical and control schematics, PLC and robot source code, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) to define requirements, optimize processes, and implement continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/Six Sigma practices beneficial).
  • Manage relationships with automation vendors and integrators; evaluate new technologies and recommend cost-effective solutions.
  • Train operations and maintenance personnel on safe operation, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of automated equipment.
  • Lead small project teams, manage project schedules and budgets, and ensure on-time delivery of automation projects.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning automation systems in a manufacturing environment (robotics and PLC-focused).
  • Strong PLC programming skills (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi or equivalent) and familiarity with Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block programming.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots and robot programming (ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa or similar) and robot cell integration.
  • Practical understanding of industrial networks and protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, OPC UA) and familiarity with motor drives, I/O modules, and field devices.
  • Proven ability to read and produce electrical schematics, control documentation, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms and data collection for production monitoring and analytics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with experience performing FAT/SAT, commissioning, and post-commissioning support.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills; ability to train and mentor technicians and operators.
  • Willingness to relocate (relocation assistance provided) and travel to customer sites as required; flexibility to work occasional off-hours for commissioning and emergency support.
