What is a Robotics AI Manager?

A Robotics AI Manager is a professional who oversees the development, implementation, and management of artificial intelligence (AI) systems within robotics projects. They coordinate teams of engineers, data scientists, and developers to design intelligent robots that can perform tasks autonomously or with minimal human intervention. Their responsibilities include project management, strategic planning, and ensuring that AI technologies are effectively integrated into robotic systems to meet organizational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics AI Manager?

To thrive as a Robotics AI Manager, you need a blend of expertise in robotics, machine learning, and project management, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or C++), robotics platforms (like ROS), and AI frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch) is typically required, along with experience in managing cross-functional teams. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure effective project delivery, innovation, and the successful integration of AI-driven robotics solutions in complex environments.

What is the difference between Robotics Ai Manager vs Robotics Engineer?

AspectRobotics Ai ManagerRobotics Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or higher in Robotics, AI, or related fields; experience in AI project managementBachelor's or higher in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
Work EnvironmentLeads teams, manages AI projects, collaborates with cross-functional teamsDesigns, develops, tests robotic systems and components
Employer & Industry UsageTech companies, manufacturing, research labsRobotics firms, automation companies, research institutions
Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for leadership roles in robotics AI projectsFocuses on technical development and engineering tasks

The Robotics Ai Manager oversees AI-driven robotics projects, managing teams and strategy, while Robotics Engineers focus on designing and building robotic systems. Both roles require technical knowledge, but the manager emphasizes leadership and project management, whereas engineers concentrate on technical development.

What are the main challenges Robotics AI Managers face when leading multidisciplinary teams?

Robotics AI Managers often lead teams composed of software engineers, mechanical engineers, data scientists, and robotics specialists. One common challenge is ensuring effective communication and collaboration across these diverse disciplines, each with its own jargon and methodologies. Balancing project timelines while integrating hardware and AI-driven software components can also be complex. Successful managers foster a culture of open communication, establish clear project milestones, and encourage cross-functional knowledge sharing to overcome these hurdles.

Koniag IT Solutions, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an AI Adoption Specialist with TS/SCI security clearance to support KITS and our government customer at Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE), VA.
We offer competitive compensation and an extraordinary benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, 401K with company matching, flexible spending accounts, paid holidays, three weeks paid time off, and more.
The AI Adoption Specialist provides embedded, hands-on support to accelerate the integration and operational use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and AI-adjacent tools across Air Combat Command (ACC) HQ A3 staff located at JBLE, and virtually to ACC Directorates, and Branches as directed. This is a practitioner-first role: the incumbent works alongside mission personnel, learn their workflows, identifies practical AI/RPA opportunities, and builds user proficiency through applied instruction and collaborative solution development. Deep subject-matter expertise is not required; practical, applied proficiency and the ability to foster cultural adoption are essential.
The AI Adoption Specialist serves as a trusted advisor and enabler, ensuring AI and RPA tools are effectively identified, prototyped, integrated, and sustained within daily operations. The role emphasizes user engagement, and mission-driven technical support across the ACC in both classified and unclassified environments.
Essential Job Functions:
Core Tasks:
  • Assist in the development of long-term strategic plans for AI/RPA integration across ACC directorate and wings.
  • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility
  • Collect and synthesize data to inform AI/RPA adoption strategies and measure mission impact.
  • Coordinate AI/RPA integration activities across multiple functional areas and units.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support AI/RPA integration.
  • Identify AI/RPA opportunities through direct observation of workflows and user engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of AI/RPA tools and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide applied hands-on training to users on AI/RPA tools in ACC mission-relevant contexts.
  • Provide technical advisory support on AI/RPA integration, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, data governance, and classification requirements.
  • Support the prototyping, testing, and transition of AI/RPA solutions into sustained operations.
  • Translate technical AI/RPA concepts into ACC mission-relevant guidance for operational users.

Additional Core Tasks:
  • Assist in the development of training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and user guides for AI/RPA tools.
  • Coordinate with AI/RPA Solutions Architect to conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements.
  • Facilitate user-driven innovation challenges (e.g., solution-a-thons, ideation workshops).
  • Maintain knowledge repositories and update materials based on user feedback and evolving tool capabilities.
  • Participate in governance bodies, technical exchanges, and working groups related to AI/RPA adoption.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Core Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of AI, RPA, and machine learning concepts and their operational application in DoD/IC mission contexts.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, data governance, and records management policies applicable to DoD networks (NIPRNet, SIPRNet, AFSCI).
  • Knowledge of DoD and Air Force AI ethical principles, data strategies, and governance structures.
  • Knowledge of IT integration and secure network operations across classified and unclassified environments.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement, KPIs, and mission outcome evaluation.

  • Skill in data analysis and reporting to inform adoption strategies and measure ROI.
  • Skill in using collaboration and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SharePoint, DAF365).

Core Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify AI/RPA opportunities without waiting to be tasked.
  • Ability to adapt support and instruction to each user's proficiency level and mission context.
  • Ability to shift fluidly between hands-on coaching, applied instruction, and practical solution development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including senior leaders, technical personnel, and end users.
