Skilled Trades Robot Tech 3rd Shift
Primary Job Function:
The Robotics Maintenance Technician is responsible for programming, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing industrial robots across press automation lines and through Automatic die Changes. This role focuses on maintaining peak robotic efficiency, minimizing line stoppage during die changes, and ensuring safe operation around heavy stamping equipment.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Press Automation amp; Transfer Systems: Program, touch up, and optimize path movements for robots handling sheet metal blanks, press loading/unloading, and inter-press transfer – across multiple platforms/generations of Robots
  • EOAT Maintenance: Install, repair, and align End-Of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), including vacuum suction cups, pneumatic grippers, magnetic lifters, and double-blank detection sensors.
  • Troubleshooting amp; Repairs: Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and communication issues on Robots, industrial robot controllers, teach pendants, servo drives, harnesses, and dress packs.
  • Program amp; Cycle Time Optimization: Modify teach pendant code (TP, KRL, Rapid) to reduce line cycle times, smooth out path trajectory, and prevent mechanical collisions with press dies and safety guards.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled robot PMs, including axis mastering/calibration, gearbox oil changes, wrist rebuilds, harness replacements, and brake checks.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Verify robot safety zone boundaries, light curtains, area scanners, safe speed monitoring, and PLC-to-robot safety handshake signals.
  • Provide support in supplying quality parts for customers

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial robots in an automotive stamping, body shop, or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in ABB (S4/IRC5/OmniCore, RobotStudio), or Yaskawa Motoman.
  • Direct experience with press automation systems (Transfer, press feeder robots, sheet destacking, and die protection interlocks).
  • Familiarity with PLC communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DeviceNet) and ability to trace electrical and pneumatic schematics.
Training Requirements or Equivalents:
  • New hire orientation

Health, Safety and Physical Demand Requirements:
  • Frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting, climbing, carrying, pulling, griping, grasping, twisting, bending, stooping and reaching throughout the work day
  • Hand and eye coordination
  • Ability to sit stand and walk for extended periods of time (8 hours or more)
  • Ability to use a phone and computer keyboard
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Passport
  • Travel within the US and Canada up to 50%
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment
