Job description

This position is responsible for substance abuse counseling of adult correctional clients at the Robert E. Ellsworth Correctional Center. AODA programming must be delivered in a secular manner free of religious components, following the agency prescribed curriculum. The person in this position is responsible for maintaining the credentials required for the position. Collaboration with other staff, supervisors, and agents is vital and communication must be maintained. The person in this position must demonstrate professional conduct and respect for each client, maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards. This is vital to uphold the pursuit of our mission: To conceive and develop effective interventions, which will enable individuals to avoid unnecessary levels of incarceration, enhance community safety and provide a setting that facilitates treatment and the reduction of recidivism.
  • Develop treatment plans based on each client's individual needs.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of progress, services provided, treatment plan, and other required information.
  • Counsel clients in group sessions, using the approved curriculum provided.
  • Conduct orientation intake sessions of individuals referred to in the program.
  • Evaluate client participation by monitoring behavior, attitude, and progress.

Education & Work Experience:
  • Associate Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC-IT, SAC or CSAC) credentials through the state of WI.
  • 1 year of experience in counseling and facilitating cognitive based programming.
  • 1 year of experience working with correctional/AODA clients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability working with individuals from diverse backgrounds; culturally competent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, and internet.
  • Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality of all agency information.
  • Ability to interact with staff, clients, and agents in an effective manner while maintaining professional boundaries.
