Job description

Job Overview:
The River Road Rescue Squad is a 65 year old full scope-of-practice NJ Department of Health licensed BLS agency participating in multiple EMS systems. We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Senior EMT/FTO's to join our EMS team. This role involves providing station based BLS ambulance level care, on-the-job mentoring to incoming EMTs on hybrid crews, and ensuring the highest standards of emergency care. The ideal candidate will posses at least three years of 9-1-1 experience along with at least three years of leadership/mentorship experience and industry standard certifications detailed below. Most importantly applicants should have a love for helping others, their peers and the industry as a whole.
Duties:
  • Supervise and mentor EMTs and other team members, providing training on triage, emergency procedures, and patient care protocols.
  • Assess patient condition through comprehensive physical examinations and patient assessments, utilizing medical terminology and physiology knowledge.
  • Provide pre-hospital emergency medical services, including basic airway management, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Administer full expanded BLS scope of practice interventions including but not limited to: ASA, albuterol, CPAP, epinephrine, glucometry, naloxone and PEEP.
  • Operate and basic troubleshooting of medical devices including but not limited to AEDs, suction devices, and Stryker PowerLOAD and PowerPRO devices.
  • Operation and basic troubleshooting of communications devices including but not limited to two-way radios, mobile data terminal (MDT), and tablet devices for documentation.
  • Thoroughly assess patients at the BLS level and accurately document findings utilizing Zoll emsCharts with CAD import, HL7 important for all local hospitals and in-field patient search enabled with 9-1-1 BLS/MICU partners.
  • Driving emergency vehicles under urgent conditions while adhering to safety regulations; perform lifting as needed during patient handling.
  • Complete daily assigned duties such as vehicle check, vehicle washing, laundry, emptying of trash receptacles, etc.

Requirements:
  • POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND WILLINGNESS TO TEACH OTHERS.
  • Three years 9-1-1 experience.
  • Clean, non-probationary drivers license.
  • Valid NJ/PA/NY EMT or NREMT certification.
  • Valid AHA, ARC or AHSI BLS CPR certification.
  • CEVO or EVOC certification.

Preferred:
  • Three years leadership/mentorship experience.
  • BTLS/PHTLS/ITLS.
  • PEARS/PEPP.

Shifts/Scheduling:
  • 8 hour (07:00-15:00 / 13:00-21:00) and 12 hour (19:00-07:00) shifts.
  • Block scheduling Jan-Apr, May-Aug, and Sept-Dec.
  • Scheduling preference given to those who can offer recurring shifts.

Pay:
  • $27-$30/HR DOE
  • Pay scale set for review June 2026
