Roadside Cleanup information

What are roadside cleanup jobs?

Roadside cleanup jobs involve removing litter, debris, and sometimes hazardous materials from the sides of roads, highways, and public spaces to maintain cleanliness and safety. Workers may pick up trash, clear away brush, and ensure that roadways are free of obstructions that could pose risks to drivers or harm the environment. These jobs can be part of government programs, community service initiatives, or private contracts, and often require physical stamina and attention to safety protocols.

What are some common challenges faced in a roadside cleanup role, and how can they be managed effectively?

Roadside cleanup workers often encounter challenges such as exposure to traffic, varying weather conditions, and handling unexpected debris or hazardous materials. To manage these effectively, team members receive safety training, wear high-visibility clothing, and use proper equipment to ensure their protection. Communication with supervisors and adherence to safety protocols are essential, and workers often collaborate closely to quickly address hazards and maintain smooth workflow. These challenges foster teamwork and problem-solving skills, making the work both dynamic and rewarding.

What is the difference between Roadside Cleanup vs Road Maintenance Worker?

Roadside Cleanup focuses on removing litter and debris from roadside areas, often requiring minimal certifications and working primarily outdoors. In contrast, Road Maintenance Workers perform broader infrastructure repairs and maintenance, often needing specialized certifications and working in various outdoor environments. Both roles are essential for roadway safety and cleanliness but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Roadside Cleanup Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Roadside Cleanup Worker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, litter pickers, safety vests, and sometimes basic machinery is typically required. Dependability, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently. These abilities are important to maintain public safety, environmental cleanliness, and to support the smooth operation of roadways and public spaces.

Job description

We are hiring Class A CDL Drivers / Laborers to support a material handling and fuel-processing operation at a Cement plant facility.

This is a working CDL position, not a driving-only job. Team members will rotate between commercial driving duties and plant support responsibilities, including trailer movement, material handling, cleanup, equipment support, and general labor tasks.

This position is a great opportunity for early-career CDL drivers looking to gain industrial experience and develop additional skills beyond over-the-road driving.

What You'll Do

  • Move and position trailers throughout the facility.
  • Safely back and maneuver 53-foot trailers in industrial yard environments.
  • Support material deliveries and offloading operations.
  • Monitor and support material processing and plant feed systems.
  • Perform general labor, housekeeping, and cleanup duties.
  • Assist with material handling and production support activities.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and support routine maintenance activities.
  • Work safely around mobile equipment, conveyors, and production systems.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist wherever needed to support plant operations.

QualificationsRequired

  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • Ability to safely operate and back 53-foot trailers.
  • Comfortable working in an industrial environment.
  • Willingness to perform both driving and labor duties.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Reliable transportation and strong attendance record.
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Preferred

  • Tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Experience in quarry, aggregate, manufacturing, recycling, material handling, logistics, warehousing, or other industrial environments.
  • Experience working around conveyors, loaders, bulk material handling systems, or mobile equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance experience.

Recent CDL graduates and early-career Class A drivers are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift throughout a 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and work safely in a heavy industrial environment.

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Day and night shifts available
  • Front-half / back-half rotation
  • Operation runs 24/7, 365 days per year

What We're Looking For

We want team members who are dependable, safety-focused, and willing to learn. Successful candidates understand that this is a shared-responsibility operation where everyone contributes to driving, cleanup, material handling, and supporting plant operations as needed.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment.
