STREETS MAINTENANCE OPERATOR 1 CLOSING DATE: Open until FilledPAY RANGE: $22.39 - $31.35 Depending on qualifications and experience with starting wage not typically above the mid-point of the range ($26.87)SCHEDULE: 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Thursday, with some on-call weekendsDEPARTMENT: Public WorksBENEFITS SUMMARY: Full-time Benefits Summary July 2025-June 2026 JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of entry level skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of city streets, alleys and related roadways:Operates specialized heavy equipment and light equipment Transports and deposits various construction materials such as sand, salt, gravel, dirt, etc.Checks and services assigned equipment; performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs; reports mechanical problems for shop repairPrepares proper barricading for streets, water and related public works projectsPerforms a variety of ground maintenance and construction work requiring the use of hand and power tools, such as building forms, framing projects, etc.RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent and one (1) year of responsible experience in a field directly related to road construction: OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B required, CDL-A preferred) within six months of hire. Must become a certified Traffic Control Technician and Flagger Certified within 6 months of hire. Must work in On-Call rotations.May become a certified Street Sweeper Operator. May be required to become HAZMAT certified. May be required to become Pesticide Applicator Certified.Some knowledge of specifications, grades, machinery, materials, and methods of constructing roads, bridges, drainage systems, culverts, etc.Safety standards related to road construction.Equipment maintenance and repair.Skill in the operation of heavy mechanized equipment as required by the position.Ability to operate heavy equipment of various kinds under varying conditions.Make minor repairs on assigned vehicles, perform heavy physical labor.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, local agencies and the general public.Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Employment in this position is conditional upon passing a pre-employment background and drug test.
