Job description

Dialysis Water System Specialist Duties:
Ensure proper functioning of the Water Room and central water distribution system, bi-carb system, portable RO units, acid delivery system, and preparation of dialysate. Assist the Lead Dialysis Water Specialist in maintaining and distributing adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for use within the Kidney Center, and all areas that dialysis treatments are provided. Assist patient care staff with department / patient preparation including patient treatment materials.
  • Prepares dialysate and ensure there is an adequate amount to satisfy daily requirements.
  • Orders and maintains stock and non-stock items, ensuring sufficient inventory for appropriate patient care.
  • Communicates with leadership, staff, and vendors regarding supply delivery and notifies leadership of unusual incidents.
  • Completes microbial monitoring and sanitization / disinfection of all equipment including weekly chemical disinfection of machines, monthly loop disinfection, and quarterly RO disinfection per standards.
  • Maintains operating logs and quality control records for dialysis equipment.
  • Assists patient care staff with preparation of treatment supplies and cleaning of treatment areas.
  • Cleans and maintains the water room and related storage areas.
  • Maintains RO carts and logs.
  • Calibrates Myron meter and Documents results appropriately.
  • Transports equipment and supplies to various locations to assist staff providing treatment.
  • Ensure proper functioning of the Water Room and central water system, portable RO units, and solution delivery system.
  • Assists with maintaining all dialysis-related equipment. Collects water samples and follows procedures related to ensuring water quality per policy. Completes testing for verification of the presence and / or absence of sterilant.
  • Participates in staff education and training related to the Water Room as directed, including training and maintenance of staff competencies and skills.
  • Assists in the review and updating of Kidney Center water-related policies, as requested.

Dialysis Water System Specialist Requirements:
  • High School or Equivalent (GED)
  • Ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language.
