Position Snapshot

Atwell is hiring an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer with oil and gas experience to support natural gas, CO₂, hydrogen, RNG, and midstream pipeline/facility projects. This role will focus on electrical power distribution, instrumentation, controls coordination, equipment specification, and construction support for pipeline and facility projects.

You'll support E&I engineering from concept through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning while coordinating with multi-discipline project teams to ensure safe, compliant, practical, and constructible designs.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and support electrical and instrumentation engineering tasks for oil and gas pipeline and facility projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers, engineers, and project teams while reviewing and implementing client-requested design changes.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with clients, EPC partners, vendors, internal teams, and construction personnel.
  • Support project execution by communicating scope, schedule, technical requirements, risks, and design changes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting collaboration across civil, mechanical, structural, process, controls, and survey teams.
  • Maintain and apply E&I best practices, industry standards, client requirements, and Atwell design procedures.
  • Travel to client sites, Atwell offices, vendor facilities, and active jobsites as needed.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred, or ability to obtain based on state and project requirements.
  • Oil and gas, midstream, pipeline, industrial, or facility engineering experience strongly preferred.

Day to Day

  • Act as an E&I engineering resource for pipeline and facility projects, including compressor stations, meter and regulator stations, terminals, valve sites, pump stations, and related midstream facilities.
  • Develop and review electrical and instrumentation design deliverables, including one-lines, load lists, cable and conduit schedules, grounding plans, area classification, lighting, heat trace, I/O lists, loop drawings, and instrument location plans.
  • Coordinate with process and mechanical teams on P&IDs, equipment layouts, instrumentation requirements, control narratives, and package equipment interfaces.
  • Prepare and review equipment specifications and data sheets for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, panels, VFDs, generators, UPS systems, instrumentation, analyzers, PLC/RTU panels, SCADA, telecom, and related E&I equipment.
  • Perform or review electrical studies such as short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, motor starting, cable sizing, and grounding calculations using SKM, ETAP, or similar software.
  • Support procurement through RFP packages, vendor bid evaluations, technical clarifications, equipment reviews, and coordination with suppliers.
  • Provide construction and commissioning support, including RFIs, submittal reviews, FAT/SAT support, punch lists, startup planning, energization support, and field issue resolution.
  • Review project deliverables for compliance with applicable codes, client standards, company procedures, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams including Development, Engineering, Permitting, GIS, Land, Survey, and Construction to support project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain organized calculations, design files, QA/QC documentation, change logs, and project records.

Preferred Tools & Experience

  • Experience with SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar electrical analysis software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related design/documentation tools.
  • Familiarity with PLC/RTU systems, SCADA, telecom, control panels, instrumentation, and control system integration.
  • Experience supporting electrical and instrumentation design for compressor stations, meter stations, pump stations, terminals, valve sites, pipeline facilities, or industrial facilities.
  • Field experience supporting installation, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup in operating facilities.
  • Consulting, EPC, or owner/operator experience within oil and gas, midstream, hydrogen, CO₂, RNG, or industrial energy projects preferred.

Pay Range - $115,000 - $155,000 base, + bonus, + benefits.
