Job description

Ascension is seeking a Registered Nurse Step Down Traveler to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to step-down patients in a fast-paced acute care setting. In this travel role, you will monitor complex, often post-ICU patients, manage telemetry, administer medications and IV therapies, and respond rapidly to changes in condition. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, educate patients and families, and uphold best practices in safety and infection control. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to step-down/progressive care patients, including post-ICU and medically complex cases
  • Continuously assess, monitor, and document patient status, including telemetry and vital signs, intervening promptly with changes in condition
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and protocols
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions to support safe transitions of care
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and uphold regulatory and hospital standards
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives within the step-down unit
  • Adapt quickly to new units and workflows as a traveler, demonstrating professionalism and strong communication skills
