Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, patient monitoring devices, and medication administration protocols is crucial. Strong communication, empathy, and adaptability are standout soft skills for effective patient interaction and teamwork. What is an RN (Registered Nurse)?

An RN, or Registered Nurse, is a healthcare professional who has completed the necessary education and licensing requirements to provide patient care. Registered Nurses assess patients, administer medications, collaborate with physicians, and educate patients about health conditions. They work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and schools. RNs play a crucial role in the healthcare system by ensuring patient safety and advocating for their needs.

How do RNs typically manage high patient volumes and prioritize care during busy shifts?

Registered Nurses (RNs) often face the challenge of caring for multiple patients at once, especially during high-volume shifts. Effective time management, strong organizational skills, and clear communication with colleagues are essential in prioritizing patient care. RNs use tools such as patient acuity scales and team huddles to assess which patients need immediate attention and delegate tasks when appropriate. Collaborating closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and support staff, helps ensure that patient needs are met efficiently and safely.
