What is an RN Outpatient Cath Lab?

An RN Outpatient Cath Lab is a registered nurse who specializes in caring for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in an outpatient cardiac catheterization laboratory. These nurses assist physicians during procedures such as angiograms, angioplasty, or stent placement, monitor patients’ vital signs, administer medications, and provide education and support before, during, and after procedures. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RN Outpatient Cath Lab nurse?

To thrive as an RN Outpatient Cath Lab Nurse, you need a solid background in cardiovascular nursing, critical care, and patient assessment, supported by an active RN license and often ACLS certification.
