Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer (EIT) - U.S. Virgin Islands

Job Description

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT) to support a large-scale, FEMA-funded sewer system replacement program in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This field-based role involves continuous drill rig monitoring and real-time soil stratification for deep sewer installations along existing roadways. • Be stationed full-time at an active drill rig (5 days/week, 6-8 hr days).
  • Monitor drilling operations continuously.
  • Stratify soils in real time as cuttings are produced.
  • Identify and log soil changes by depth.
  • Observe groundwater conditions and note anomalies.
  • Ensure borings reach required depths (~20 ft).
  • Act as the engineer-in-charge at the rig, not a passive observer.
  • Collect representative soil samples during drilling.
  • Manage bulk samples and coordinate off-island shipment of samples.
  • Prepare basic field logs and boring documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of experience in real-time stratifying.
  • Experience monitoring drill rigs in the field.
  • Experience stratifying soils in real time.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in certain weather conditions.
  • Proficient with report writing and communication.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour Refreshers.
  • Willingness to travel in order to complete field assignments.
  • Comfortable working independently without daily supervision.
  • Previous experience with drill rig monitoring.
  • Experience in remote or island environments.

Work Environment

This role is field-based, requiring the engineer to be at the drill rig daily, monitoring operations and stratifying soils in real time.
