An RGN (Removable Gooseneck) Owner Operator is a truck driver who owns and operates their own rig, specifically designed to haul heavy and oversized loads using an RGN trailer. As an Rgn Owner Operator, your daily tasks often include securing and transporting oversized or heavy freight using a removable gooseneck (RGN) trailer, planning routes that comply with height, weight, and permit regulations, and maintaining both your vehicle and business paperwork. You’ll be responsible for coordinating with shippers, consignees, and sometimes escort drivers to ensure the safe and timely delivery of loads. Additionally, you manage your own schedule, fuel logistics, and regulatory requirements, which allow for greater autonomy but also require strong organizational skills. Maintaining good relationships with clients and brokers is essential for securing consistent loads and growing your business.
To thrive as an Rgn Owner Operator, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), expertise in safe heavy equipment operation, and strong business management abilities. This role often requires proficiency with load securement systems, electronic logging devices (ELD), and DOT compliance procedures. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and customer service skills are also crucial for maximizing efficiency and client satisfaction. Sunbelt Rentals--the fastest growing rental business in North America--is seeking a Class A CDL Driver.
As a Class A CDL driver, you will deliver and recover a variety of equipment, tools and supplies to and from the customer worksite. This role will generally drive a Class A truck hauling equipmenton on a flatbed (dovetail) or RGN (lowboy) trailer in a variety of conditions, including urban, suburban, rural settings. Ability to drive safely in tight settings such as construction zones is required.
Education or experience that prepares you for success:
Education High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Valid Driver's license with CDL License and acceptable driver's record
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities you may rely on:
Prior training and/or experience with similar commercial equipment preferred
Experience driving flat-beds, RGN/lowboy, dovetail trailers
Ability to troubleshoot and make minor repairs to equipment and vehicle at job sites
Customer service attitude
The physical demands of this role require bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, lifting 50 pounds or more, and working indoors/outdoors when required by the job.
