Job Title: Rework Technician – PCBA

Position Summary:
The Rework Technician is responsible for modifying, repairing, or replacing components on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to meet customer specifications and industry standards. This role requires expertise in soldering, component identification, and rework techniques including both surface-mount and through-hole technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform rework and repair of PCBAs using hand soldering, hot air rework stations, and other specialized tools.
  • Remove and replace SMT and through-hole components without damaging the board or surrounding components.
  • Interpret rework instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and assembly documentation such as schematics, assembly drawings, and work orders.
  • Inspect completed work using magnification and/or X-ray equipment to ensure quality standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) are met.
  • Troubleshoot and identify defects or component issues in PCBAs, including open circuits, shorts, solder bridges, and misaligned parts.
  • Document rework performed and maintain accurate records of repairs and rework activities.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams regarding rework requirements or process improvements.
  • Follow all ESD, safety, and cleanliness protocols in the handling and assembly of electronic components.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in electronics preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in PCBA rework or repair.
  • Proficiency in hand soldering of fine-pitch SMT and through-hole components.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a cleanroom or ESD-controlled manufacturing area.
  • Requires sitting or standing for extended periods and handling small electronic parts.
