Job Title: Rework TechnicianJob Description

The Rework Technician diagnoses, repairs, reworks, and tests electronic, electro-mechanical, and laser-based products to ensure they meet defined quality and performance standards before release. This hands-on role focuses on troubleshooting product failures, performing precise repairs and adjustments, and accurately documenting all activities to support product reliability and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose product failures and identify root causes using structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, rework, and component replacement on production units and returned products.
  • Disassemble and reassemble electro-mechanical assemblies while maintaining all product quality requirements.
  • Carry out alignment, calibration, and verification testing after repairs to confirm proper operation.
  • Use electrical, mechanical, and optical test equipment to troubleshoot products and validate performance.
  • Analyze test data to identify defects, abnormalities, and performance issues.
  • Verify product performance against established specifications and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot production test equipment, fixtures, and measurement systems as needed.
  • Document all repairs, test results, and failure information clearly and accurately in the appropriate systems.
  • Ensure all work follows established procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Support investigations into recurring product failures and quality issues by providing technical input and detailed data.
  • Assist with production activities during periods of increased workload, including product assembly, testing, calibration, and inspection.
  • Help improve manufacturing processes and product quality by identifying recurring failure trends and suggesting improvements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to production personnel regarding repair methods, test procedures, and product issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing and test areas.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing repair, rework, or testing of technical products.
  • Practical experience working with electronics, electro-mechanical systems, optics, or precision assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, schematics, and other technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex product failures.
  • Proficiency with soldering and rework techniques for electronic components.
  • Ability to use electrical, mechanical, and optical test equipment safely and effectively.
  • Experience performing quality checks and verifying product performance against specifications.
  • Basic computer skills, including documenting repairs, test results, and failure information in digital systems.
  • Ability to perform root cause failure analysis and clearly communicate findings.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to following established procedures and quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with laser-based products or similar high-precision equipment.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading and interpretation of detailed assembly documentation.
  • Comfort supporting production teams during peak workload periods.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement or process enhancement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear technical support and guidance to production personnel.

Work Environment

You will regularly use electrical, mechanical, and optical test equipment, as well as tools for repair, rework, soldering, and calibration. The role involves working at benches or workstations, handling precision assemblies, and following detailed work instructions and quality procedures throughout the day.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Marcos, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
