Job description

Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of complex energy infrastructure projects. This position is ideal for a highly skilled design professional with expertise in 3D plant design, piping systems, AutoCAD, CADWorx, and industrial facility layouts.

The Mechanical Designer will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality engineering drawings and 3D models while ensuring compliance with company, client, and industry standards. This role also provides technical leadership, mentoring, quality review, and continuous process improvement within the Mechanical Design team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop process and site designs.
  • Produce complex 3D models and engineering drawings for facilities, pipelines, foundations, supports, and energy infrastructure systems.
  • Read, interpret, and apply engineering terminology, standards, and symbols.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical design standards and drafting procedures.
  • Recommend process improvements and best practices for design workflows.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Mechanical Designers and Drafters.
  • Coordinate project assignments and workload with design leadership.
  • Review engineering drawings for quality, accuracy, and compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Review deliverables from consultants, vendors, and clients.
  • Research and recommend new design technologies, software, and drafting tools.
  • Support Project Managers and Lead Engineers with client communications regarding technical design requirements.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and performance evaluations of design staff.
  • Assist with project estimates, proposals, and resource planning.
  • Evaluate scope changes and identify impacts on staffing and project schedules.
  • Prepare technical documentation and project reports.
  • Support engineering teams by researching product specifications and coordinating with equipment vendors.
  • Perform field visits to collect measurements, create as-built documentation, and verify installation conditions.
  • Maintain drawing lists, project documentation, and Microsoft Teams task updates.
  • Complete assignments on schedule and within project budgets.
  • Travel to project sites as required (less than 20%).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Mechanical Design, or a related technical field.
  • Applicable drafting or CAD certification from an accredited program may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience producing complex 2D and 3D mechanical designs.
  • Advanced proficiency using:
    • AutoCAD
    • Autodesk 3D Design Products
    • CADWorx Plant
    • CADWorx P&ID
    • CADWorx Spec Editor
    • CADWorx Isogen
  • Expert knowledge of:
    • Plant layout
    • Industrial piping systems
