Job description

Overview

Fountain Tire is seeking a dedicated Finance Manager to be a key player in our dynamic accounting team based in our South Edmonton Corporate Head Office.

This leadership role is responsible for the financial stewardship of Mine Service, Tire Country, and National Accounts by directing the accounting team, ensuring the delivery accurate, timely, and impactful reporting to senior management and Operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in upholding strong internal controls, developing a highperforming accounting team, and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting through compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve processes and reporting efficiency. What do we offer at Fountain Tire?

At Fountain Tire, we're committed to supporting our Associates' well-being and financial future. Together, these benefits reflect our core purpose: helping people get there - safely, sustainably, and successfully.

  • Competitive salary: $100,000 to $115,000 per year
  • A Short-Term Incentive Program with a target incentive of 15% to recognize your contributions to the organization
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision care, along with life insurance and short/long term disability programs
  • Competitive RRSP matching program, helping you plan for a secure and successful retirement
  • Policies and programs that support a balanced lifestyle and an easy commute to our office located close to the Calgary Trail and Southside Anthony Henday
  • Discounts for you and your family on tires, parts, and services at all Fountain Tire locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set priorities and provide clear direction to the Mine Service, Tire Country, and National Accounts accounting team, with accountability for performance, capacity, succession, and professional growth.
  • Coach and mentor team members to strengthen capability, engagement, collaboration, and personal and team growth.
  • Own compliance with ASPE, company policies, safety requirements, and communication standards, escalating material risks to the Director, Finance.
  • Lead month-end delivery and special projects through disciplined planning, clear accountability, and practical win-win solutions.
  • Own the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and tax compliance for Mine Service, its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Tire Country, and National Accounts.
  • Direct the monthly close, ensuring accurate business units' cut-off, sales accruals, investment balances, intercompany and joint venture reconciliations, foreign exchange translation, and completion of close controls by agreed deadlines.
  • Ensure monthly reporting, forecasts, subsidiary records, working papers, and operational queries are complete, reconciled, decision-useful, and delivered in accordance with established service and communication standards.
  • Oversee quarterly balance sheet reviews and consolidated reporting packages, ensuring significant accounts are supportable, packages are completed by agreed deadlines, and outstanding matters are resolved.
  • Lead annual inventory counts, budgeting, tax filings, year-end close, and audit support, with clear plans, accountabilities, and deadlines across Canadian and international entities.
  • Manage financial reporting for mine-site openings, ongoing operations, and closures, including U.S. reporting and currency translation requirements where applicable.
  • Own the National Accounts control and exception-management process by identifying margin leakage, pricing and setup errors, driving corrective action, and strengthening store processing capability.
  • Build simple, sustainable reporting, analysis, modelling, and key performance indicators that improve decision quality for Mine Service and Tire Country.

What does it take to get on track?

  • CPA designation is required
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7 or more years of progressive accounting experience including a minimum of 3 years of people leadership experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and ASPE.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial matters for varied audiences.
  • Strong analytical judgement and attention to detail, with the ability to investigate issues, assess risk, and escalate material matters.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with demonstrated success managing competing priorities and fixed deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong capability with financial systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Operations would be considered a definite asset.
  • To support our commitment to a safe and trustworthy workplace, candidates selected for this role will be required to successfully complete background and credit checks prior to employment.
