Job description

Summary: The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care and standards of professional nursing practice. The registered nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for judgment and actions, maintains clinical competency and exercises informed judgment in delegating nursing care to others. The Registered Nurse promotes patient, family and staff learning. Must meet per diem requirements per CBA.

Education: Graduate of an accredited R.N. school of nursing.

Licensure: Maintain a current Rhode Island nursing license. BLS certification. ACLS certification (Department Specific). PALS certification (Department Specific).

Experience: One to two years of nursing experience preferred, previous experience in a hospital setting desired.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Must possess sound dexterity and visual acuity. Requires mental alertness, stamina to work in a fast-paced environment and in emergency situations. Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach without restrictions. Ability to lift between 25 and 50 pounds using good body mechanics. Must be able to push heavy equipment, gurneys, and wheelchairs. May be exposed to all patient care elements within the hospital setting. Risk of needle punctures. Must meet annual safety training requirements per hospital policy. Some risk of electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards. Exposure to ionizing radiation is possible in the performance of radiographic tests. Exposure is strictly monitored following established guidelines. Regular staff is required to work the hours for which hired including weekends and holiday coverage if this is part of the operations of the department. Per Diem staff is required to work 4 shifts per month as the needs of the department dictate.
