Retail Technology Associate information

What is a retail technology associate?

Retail Technology Associates are professionals who support and maintain the technology systems used in retail environments. They help ensure that point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and other digital tools operate smoothly so that retail operations run efficiently. Their responsibilities may include troubleshooting technical issues, training staff on new technologies, and collaborating with vendors to implement upgrades. Retail Technology Associates play a key role in enhancing the customer experience by keeping retail technology up-to-date and functional.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a retail technology associate?

To thrive as a Retail Technology Associate, you need a solid understanding of retail operations, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and troubleshooting, typically supported by a relevant associate degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with POS software, inventory management systems, and basic IT support tools is commonly required. Strong customer service, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help you efficiently address user issues and collaborate with store teams. These skills ensure smooth retail operations, minimize downtime, and enhance the overall customer experience.

How does a retail technology associate typically collaborate with store staff and IT teams to implement new technologies?

Retail Technology Associates play a key role in bridging the gap between technical teams and store personnel. They often work closely with store managers and frontline staff to assess technology needs, provide training on new systems like POS or inventory software, and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Additionally, they coordinate with IT departments to ensure smooth rollouts and ongoing support for hardware and software solutions. This collaborative approach helps ensure that technological upgrades are both effective and user-friendly for retail operations.

Job description

Company Description

Vuori is re-defining what athletic apparel looks like: built to move and sweat in but designed with a casual aesthetic to transition into everyday life. We draw inspiration from an active coastal California lifestyle; an integration of fitness, creative expression and life. Our high energy fast paced retail environment is reflected in the clothes we make. We aim to inspire others to take on all aspects of their lives with clarity, enthusiasm and purpose...while having a lot of fun along the way. We are proud to be an outlet for opportunity and for personal growth and success.

Job Description

In this role, you will analyze retail technology business problems, define requirements, and support the optimization of in-store technology platforms and processes, with a focus on Point of Sale, RFID, and omni-inventory management. You will support the rollout, enhancement, and ongoing operation of the retail applications that power store associates, fulfillment, and inventory accuracy across the fleet. You will take on aspects of product ownership for retail applications, prioritizing features alongside senior team members, and ensuring alignment with retail operations and business goals.

What you'll get to do:

Business Analysis

  • Conduct analysis of retail technology business processes, systems, and requirements with an emphasis on POS workflows, RFID-enabled inventory accuracy, and store-level inventory management.
  • Develop functional and technical specifications to support the design and implementation of retail applications solutions, including POS enhancements, RFID pilot and rollout capabilities, cycle counts, receiving, transfers, and ship-from-store fulfillment.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including retail operations leaders, store managers, inventory planning, loss prevention, omni-channel fulfillment, product managers, UI/UX designers, and engineering teams, to gather and document feature/project requirements for retail applications and initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment between store operations needs and the technological solutions that support them across POS, RFID, and inventory management.

Project Support

  • Provide support throughout the retail applications project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, build, UAT, and store rollout across POS, RFID, and inventory workstreams.
  • Facilitate communication between retail operations, store teams, and technical teams to ensure successful delivery of POS enhancements, RFID milestones, and inventory management capabilities.
  • Support change management processes for the implementation and optimization of key retail applications, such as POS, RFID platforms and omni-inventory management systems and ERP systems.

Requirements Definition

  • Develop clear and actionable requirements and acceptance criteria to guide development and ensure the delivery of high-quality retail applications features supporting POS, RFID, and omni-inventory management.
  • Refine epic-level requirements for POS workflow improvements, RFID-enabled inventory and receiving processes, cycle counts, transfers, ship-from-store, and endless aisle initiatives into actionable, daily requirements for digital development teams.

Product Ownership

  • Take on product ownership responsibilities for defined retail applications product areas - including POS, RFID, and inventory management modules - prioritizing features alongside senior team members, aligning initiatives with retail operations goals, and supporting the successful delivery of product enhancements.
  • Contribute to the retail applications audit process, identify gaps, and recommend solutions to enhance the store associate experience, inventory accuracy, and omni-channel fulfillment performance.

Documentation & Communication

  • Create clear and concise documentation for retail applications, business requirements, process flows, store SOPs, rollout playbooks, and user stories.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and project status to stakeholders and team members effectively, including store-facing communications for new feature releases and pilot updates.

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Provide guidance to junior analysts, contractors, or store super-users on retail applications for best practices, store rollout methodologies, inventory and POS workflows.
  • Lead by example and contribute to the continuous improvement of the retail applications of business analysis and product practice within the organization.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze store and associate feedback, inventory accuracy and shrink data, POS performance metrics, and RFID read-rate and exception data to identify optimization opportunities and drive ongoing enhancements to the retail applications ecosystem and in-store experiences.
Qualifications

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Retail Management) or years of experience preferred
  • 3+ years of experience as a business analyst, associate product manager, or retail technology analyst
  • Analytical skills with the ability to translate retail technology data into actionable insights
  • Proficiency in business analysis tools and methodologies (e.g., process mapping, requirements elicitation, data analysis)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management principles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, including store associates, store leadership, and corporate partners
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Proficient in understanding and managing retail applications and platforms
  • Experience in translating business requirements into technical specifications and user stories
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale operations, RFID-enabled inventory processes, omni-channel fulfillment (ship-from-store, endless aisle), and store operations best practices
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills to identify and address optimization opportunities across in-store technology
  • Experience supporting change management initiatives, including store rollouts and end-user training enablement
  • Retail Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the retail sector, including familiarity with store operations and retail technology ecosystems, particularly retail applications such as POS, RFID platforms, and inventory management tools used in store operations, fulfillment, and customer engagement strategies.
