Job description

Summary:

To provide quality customer service by maintaining and operating the Produce Department including the trimming and preparation of the merchandise according to store and department standards. Proper performance of the duties and responsibilities of this position contributes to and ensures achievement of optimal shopping conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner, consistent with store safety policies and procedures.
  • Has basic knowledge of products available in produce, including seasonal products.
  • Prices and displays product in cases as directed by the Department Manager.
  • Keeps displays, shelves, and refrigerated cases properly stocked and faced at all times, according to product movement and the department standards.
  • Follows approved procedures for code dating, trimming, crisping, storing, price marking and restocking products.
  • Code-dates and rotates all the perishable merchandise to ensure quality and freshness.
  • Assists in checking and verifying Produce Department receiving's when required.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to department procedures and assists in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Performs price checks as requested.
  • Retrieves items that customers are unable to reach, lift, or find.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policies and applicable health regulations.
  • Assists with cleanup of spills, breakages, and other maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels and improve overall department processes and customer service.
  • Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions listed above.
  • Provides light supervision and training of other associates when assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the department head or other management personnel.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Previous grocery retail experience preferred but not required.
